JonnyMac 0 #1 July 9, 2008 Hi, I just found out that I bought a rig that has a Cypres 2 that is part of the recent recall. Any recommendations on how to get the unit repaired and keep jumping? I can't imagine sitting out for 6 weeks or more in the middle of summer. Is it at all conscionable to wait until the end of summer to send it in? Can I buy an old Cypres and have it swapped out while this unit is repaired? Thanks for your thoughts on this...
likestojump 3 #2 July 9, 2008 SSK will rent you a Cypres - check their website. Your DZ may have a similar program in place as well. Also (assuming you are in the US) not all DZs require the use of Cypres - it may be possible to just have it removed and jump without it until it comes back. Depends on your DZ policy and personal comfort. good luck !
pilotdave 0 #3 July 9, 2008 You can't jump with a defective cypres in your rig. You can remove it and jump without it if you want. But you can also try to get a loaner unit while yours is being repaired. I don't know how hard it is to get one, but I know my DZ got a few while ours were out. Most of the cypres2s must have been fixed by now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had most of their loaners back now. Dave
rhys 0 #4 July 9, 2008 The recall is not a joke! a good friend of mine had his cypres pop at 1000' and ended up landing with two out. he was on a tandem but imaging he was swooping?? send your unit back and have it serviced! don't make another jump with t in, it could cost you your life!"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
