FlyingTed 0 #1 September 22, 2005 Hi I`ll fly from Chicago to Detroit this weekend. United Airlines says: Carry-on baggage information For travel worldwide on United, you may carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop computer. * A carry-on bag must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin. * Carry-on bag dimensions should not be more than 9" x 14" x 22" (length + width + height) or 45 linear inches (the length, height and width added together). My two suitcases are full and I have to take my baserig with me, otherwise I have to pay 80 bucks (for checkin` in a third suitcase). It is bigger than the given sizes, but, hey, every normal backpack is bigger than that. Then I have my laptop, too, in my backpack. What do you think. Am I allowed to take both - rig and backpack - with me? Any suggestions to handle it another way? Thanks Kat #1094
Frenchy68 0 #2 September 22, 2005 You should be fine. Make sure you board early, so you can get room in the overhead compartment in case the plane is full. Keith 0 #3 September 22, 2005 You'll be fine. I've carried my rig and backpack on flights many times. I'd put the rig in a small suit case so you don't draw attention to it though.Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J. Mandeville
azureriders 0 #4 September 22, 2005 I have read somewhere that most all airlines say you should carry on your rig. This is for care of the rig not for the chance of jumping out, but the article actually read that most airlines give special consideration for parachutes as for as size. But dont ask me where I read this.
Frenchy68 0 #5 September 22, 2005 If you have an AAD, make sure you get the "X-Ray card" handy. Just in case. mattjw916 2 #8 September 22, 2005 you'll be fine with 2 carry-ons... I recently did 2 suitcases checked with a rig and camera gear as carry-on no prob. I did have to gate check my rig for a recent CRJ flight since the overhead is very limited on the tiny commuter planes. I fly United all the time and have had no hassles at all.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
Frenchy68 0 #9 September 22, 2005 QuoteI don't think she has an AAD in a base rig Damn! I'm so used to using my skydiving rig on BASE jumps, I got confused... I was about to advise her to turn the AAD off if she was swooping the Fjord. I'll go back into my cave now, and look for my power animal. happythoughts 0 #10 September 22, 2005 Interesting reading on the USPA website clicky At the bottom of the page is a link to the TSA rules. I print it off. Be polite Be helpful When carrying my skydiving rig, I try to remember to remove the hook knife and put in my checked baggage.
FlyingTed 0 #11 September 22, 2005 Thanks everybody - I feel better now. The bigger problem will be the flight back home with a german airline - you`re allowed to have ONE carry-on. But I`ll try to be nice and friendly. :) #1094

Nope, that was absolutely no problem (the girl behind me wanted to sit in the plane next to me). I forgot to put my laptop out of my backpack - yes, tell me I`m stupid. :-) I finally arrived after a rainy flight in Detroit - the pilot was pathetic. cya Kat #1094
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
