In your neck of the wood it shouldn't.

Yeah, but it's not like I live in a gated community miles and miles from the ghetto. I live across the street from it. :|

You're prob'ly right though. :)

Is anyone else in Houston being expected to concentrate on office work, and just totally too preoccupied to do a damn thing?

A disturbing number of the more accurate predictors (AEMI, AVNI, OFCI) show it going very near or right through Houston.

I was on the road today in the NASA area north of Galveston.

Short lines at gas stations. Bottled water and canned food selling out. Plywood in the back of pickup trucks everywhere. A few stores boarding up. Signs on stores indicating they're closing. And I-45 northbound is already getting clogged up.

Tomorrow should be really fun...

I promise you this isn't New Orleans... Looters will be shot and shot dead here in South Texas.

If I don't know you, you make me nervous and you step foot in my house after the storm in a threatening manner. I will shot you, then search your body for ID. End of story. Now if I see you looting my neighbors house, we may have some words then I shot you. If I see you looting a grocery store.. FFA biotches!! May the best man win.

In all seriousness.. I don't think looting after the storm is going to be a wide spread problem. Not that it won't happen. But I think it's not the biggest worry we should have.

Was just informed by a vendor. The drive time to Dallas via 45 from Houston is 14 hours.

Considering I'm not trained, licensed or permitted, I'm thinking gun-acquisition is gonna be a low priority on the supplies list.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I could take a mutha down, but seeing as how there's these waiting periods and stuff... .

This is Texas, still land of the free. You don't need no steenkin' license, permit or waiting period to buy a gun and keep it in your own home.

Training, of course, is a good idea. I'd be happy to take you out and let you shoot a few guns to see what you like.

Latest report on Fox News is that Hurricane Rita is now a Category 5 with 165 mph sustained winds...

Holy fuck... :o Who thought we'd see another one like Katrina so soon?? If Rita hits Galveston/Houston with anything over 135 mph, the area's fucked... [:/]

Yep, were short on drivers because they're all getting stuck on the way back from Houston... B|

I don't know yet if I am staying or leaving. I live about 45 minutes from Galveston and 30 minutes from Spaceland. If I do, I will probably stay with some famiy at the Woodlands but even that is not far. My best friend is moving to San Francisco, she's lucky because her plane is leaving at 5PM today. I feel like going to California.

My brother is being stubborn. He is going to ride out the storm with his girlfriend, their four dogs, and two cats!!!! He's not even getting any food or water. He doesn't believe it's going to be so bad.....!!! I just want to slap him!

Please, please, please, everyone in the area of Hurricane Rita take all the necessary precautions and get out of there. Don't let Katrina have been something that nobody learned anything from. That, and I can't handle hearing about any more bad news from anyone I care about.[:/]

Check out the storm path.

Well, I live in Huntsville where they have one of the Red Cross hubs set up and people are pouring in already, not to mention we still have tons of Katrina victims still camped out and TCD is supposed to be evacuating over 6,000 inmates from the units down south to the 9 units we have here. I'm not sure if they mentioned it but the shelters are supposed to be allowing pets if that is a problem.

I'm supposed to be out of town this weekend for a family thing but if people still need somewhere to stay PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Yeah me. Work is pretty much expecting me to telecommute up until the storm hits.

Like I'm going to do that... right.

Don't forget to take their cash. :)

And 'Becca... you're more than welcome to hang with me and Omar at my place. I have guns & ammo. Not as much as a good buddy of mine though....

He has a Class 3 firearms dealer's license and has at least 5 fully automatic weapons... including one belt-fed. :o

I'm still at work but not "working working" but busy packing up everything so that it can be transported to another location that is supposively going to withstand the hurricane better than the office where I'm at.

Thanks Alan. There were only a few staff around there at noon. Trailers have been moved into the hanger with all equipment. Otter will leave in the morning for either Columbus or Perris I think.

Everything is boarded up and nailed down. If the hanger can survive these winds it will survive anything.

Latest from NOAA models still shows most landfall predictions as near Matagorda.

Trent and I will head out early Friday morning to the Ft Hood/Waco area. Nothing we can do with a Cat 5 bearing down.

Behold the beauty of Rita

What a very deadly storm. It's reach 5th most powerfull storm in US history. :S

I'm riding it out as of now. Zennie knows where I live. My place is pretty rock solid where I'm located. I'm just worried about wind damage and no power turning into a raving lunatic!
