lawrocket 3 #27 September 14, 2005 I used a credit card. Of course, I paid the price for that. I will therefore not jump again until I can pay cash for it. I learned my lesson. My wife is hotter than your wife.

tsampson 0 #29 September 14, 2005 My inheritance. My dad totally wanted to skydive, but couldn't because of health conditions, so when he died and then my mom died shortly after him, I said, "F#ck this, I'm doing it!," and I blew a chunk of my inheritance on AFF and gear. I love it so far. Yes it is cheaper, but at my dz I will be off student status after 12 jumps (if all goes well). At the other 3 dz's around here that do AFF, it's like 14 or more jumps before you are off student status. Our instructors insist that you have to be rock-solid stable from exit until pull time. That's difficult with poised exits, and you can't reach the strut on a C-206. I didn't get to full altitude until I had ~20 jumps.HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... I'm sorry you had a frightening AFF jump but are you gonna feel more comfortable chunking yourself out of a plane on "self-supervision" after 12 "jump and dumps" or 14 minutes of freefall with in-air feedback with regards to your body position? jasonRose 0 #43 September 14, 2005 I paid cash. I had to dip into my savings a little when I bought my rig though. I am into it about $9000+ with all new gear. AlexCrowley 0 #44 September 14, 2005 My wife paid for the first couple of jumps and then I worked at the dropzone every weekend for the rest of the AFF course. This seasons A licence jumps were covered by my employer as a performance bonus. Yes, my employer rocks. No we're not hiring TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking. SkymonkeyONE 4 #47 September 14, 2005 I did not pay for my skydiving training. My dad owns a DZ and I grew up helping pack parachutes and hanging around the DZ. Oddly, when it came time for me to start jumping, he sent me away with one of his best friends to another DZ for my training. He didn't want to have any part of it and I never made a jump with him until I had around 50 jumps. I figure that was so nobody would say that corners were being cut. Hambone 0 #49 September 14, 2005 I used a tax return and I saved up my cash then sold some stock to buy gear. I totally agree that you should get gear as soon as you can after AFF it opens many doors. Also you can pay for it by packing. That is what i am about to start doing...Its all good though.
