bertusgeert 1 #1 September 10, 2005 Ok, I'm in a tough spot. I want to do what I want to do but cannot do it because I have to do things that I don't want to do so that one day I can finally do what I want to do. I have discovered this: http://www.skicb.com/page.php?pname=jobs/interns I am an Economics/Finance double major, and I am right in the middle of my studies. I can finish easily with one degree in 3 semesters, or 4 harder semesters with 2 degrees. I can get a professional internships at Procter and Gamble, Netjets or CAT, or I can take a few months off an go do something like this. Is it really that much of a negative thing on my resume (as my dad claims)? It will postpone my graduation date for six months, I am thinking about applying for next spring. --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! thegreekone 0 #2 September 10, 2005 I don't get it, it didn't say anything about planes or jumping. If it was ME, I would be eager to put myself in a position to get outta school quickly while being able to make as much money as possible, hopefully doing something at least moderately fulfilling. That said, looking back at all the crazy shit I've done, I have NEVER strapped on a pair of skis. Isn't skiing dangerous? Be careful..
flyangel2 2 #3 September 10, 2005 Life is too short. If doing an Internship at Crested Butte is something that interest you, go for it. You can always go back to school when the Internship is over. Who knows, it may open other doors for you. Do you want to look back on this miss opportunity down the road and say to yourself "I should have gone for it." Crested Butte is a awesome place, and if you are into skiing, you will enjoy the area.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

somethinelse 0 #5 September 10, 2005 Tough it out dude. finish what ya started. Then you'll have the dough later to take all the fancy-shamancy trips that this "internship" had the appeal of. Aferall isn't the appeal really the escapist fantasy of it all? Personally, everytime I get side tracked, into some other interesting thing, I forget what it was that I was doing before.......Can you say ADD?! HA. Hang in there. After all they say perserverance is a good thing. Right? Blues - LuLu. PS just my .02 take it for what it's worth.
Mike111 0 #6 September 10, 2005 IMHO, it would be better to get the degree out the way, and then it is done for good. If you left it for a while, you would have work to go once you were back from skiing. but if you had finished all your work, you could og away without having to think about it when you came back. Could give you a better time. Have fun
skybytch 273 #7 September 10, 2005 QuoteThen you'll have the dough later to take all the fancy-shamancy trips that this "internship" had the appeal of. My aunt waited until my cousins were raised and my uncle had died before she could take the time and afford the cost of taking a bunch of "fancy-shmancy" trips. She went to China, Africa and Egypt over the past four years. She was planning to go to many other places, places she'd wanted to visit all her life. She died two weeks ago of a horrible stomach infection after surgery for lung cancer. She was only 69. I attended her memorial service last night. As my mom told me both last night and this morning - Life is too short. Don't wait for someday. Someday may never come. Do want you want to do when you want to do it (assuming of course that you don't have responsibilities to other people - ie spouses and/or children). kbordson 8 #8 September 11, 2005 It's about the journey, not the destination. Yes, you want the degree and you want to earn money, but not at the cost of sacrificing your life. So the path wanders a bit, enjoy that and remember that not all that wander are lost. Do the internship if you can manage it.
popsjumper 2 #9 September 11, 2005 Take it from an old-fart.. The big scheme of things is just ass-backwards: Earn while you're young, spend when you're old and can't physically do the things your young-self could do......that's just WRONG! Straighten out your life. DO the fun stuff NOW and THEN send your tired old self to work to pay for it.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
