I have thousands of funny language stories, a lot of hungarian words sound similar than some english ones but mean TOTALLY different things. I think you might just know what I'm talking about...

Interlaken is by far one of the most beautiful spots in Europe. I have had the luck to spend at least a month a year in that area while growing up. I still have family there too....

Interlaken - They've just (a week or so ago) had terrible floods and land slides.... may want to check before going. A friend of mine had her scout troop helicoptered out of the area.

Do they still have a Swiss Army knife shop there? When I was there 20 years ago, I stayed in the coolest youth hostel (Balmers?) and dropped my knife off. (I think Lets Go suggested it?) They cleaned and sharpened it, then delivered it back to the youth hostel for me. I just thought that was soooo cool!

there are so many amazing places within such short distances, that winging it is the best way to go. Do not try to see everything. Spend as much time as you enjoy it in one place, then head to the train station, look up at the different destinations, pick one and go there. You will have the most amazing experience, and will end up seeing things that are not on travel guides...

Seconded - did that back in March and it was awesome!

I'd also suggest Empuriabrava.

Stockholm is a really beautiful (albeit expensive!) city too.

So that's Europe taken care of... in the UK I recommend London if you haven't done it before, Oxford, Chester and probably Stonehenge (although less impressive in real life than in pics). If visiting Stonehenge, be sure to drop in at Netheravon which is only a few miles away.

Oh yeah - Skydive Locarno in Switzerland - an hour north of Milan by train. By far and away the most beautiful dropzone I've ever skydived at. Nestled in the Swiss Alps - its gorgeous!

Ahem, that would be the Italian Swiss Alps, as it is in Ticino/Tessin (Italian/Deutsch).

Why do you people keep saying Interlaken????!!!! Interlaken is just a transit point! It is all about the Lauterbrunnen area!

Re: Balmers: As far as legit cultural experiences, it sucks. If you go there with the mindset that you will be staying at an American Frathouse (sprinkled in with some Aussies, Canadians and others), then it is fine.
