All the Czechs say to go to Budapest! ;)

I live in Budapest and coming here for a visit is definitely recommended. Beautiful city and great night life ;)

I lived in Budapest for about a year and a half. Definitely worth a visit, at least.

As an aside, doesn't "Judit Forro" roughly translate to "Judy Hottie?"

The nicest part of Europe is Rio de Janeiro - highly recommend it.

Dude, Rio is not in Europe, it's in Portugal.:S

...and Gimmelwald, Switzerland.

DEFINITE MUST SEE!!!! THE LAUTERBRUNNEN VALLEY IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN THE WORLD. IT IS WHERE JAMES BOND "ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE" WAS FILMED. IT IS A SHORT TRAIN RIDE FROM INTERLAKEN. INTERLAKEN ITSELF ISN'T MUCH (JUST A GATEWAY TO THE ACTION), BUT NEXT TO THE BETTER VALLEY.

OK. Back to non-shouting.;)

:D:D it actually does. How do you know?

Well, my language skills are rusty, but I did live in Budapest for a while.

It's always fun to listen to people who have no idea that you might be getting some of their conversation.

I think your language skills are pretty good - you got this one right ;)

I pressed the button a bit too quick to answer than i read the rest of your post regarding living here so i edited my original post but you were quicker. I feel slightly stupid :o

I have thousands of funny language stories, a lot of hungarian words sound similar than some english ones but mean TOTALLY different things. I think you might just know what I'm talking about...:D

I once accidentally told someone I was going to a party with my girlfriend's breast, rather than with my girlfriend. :$ As I recall it was something about "baratnomel" and "baratnomell."

and add Greece in there.

But definitely get to the islands. Island life is pretty special. Unfortunately, the only DZ is in Thessaloniki. Not exactly close to anything.

Again, if you really want to experience that greek hospitality, get to the Islands: Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, and ESPECIALLY Santorini.

Interlaken - They've just (a week or so ago) had terrible floods and land slides.... may want to check before going. A friend of mine had her scout troop helicoptered out of the area.

Do they still have a Swiss Army knife shop there? When I was there 20 years ago, I stayed in the coolest youth hostel (Balmers?) and dropped my knife off. (I think Lets Go suggested it?) They cleaned and sharpened it, then delivered it back to the youth hostel for me. I just thought that was soooo cool! :)

This is my take on travelling in Europe:
there are so many amazing places within such short distances, that winging it is the best way to go. Do not try to see everything. Spend as much time as you enjoy it in one place, then head to the train station, look up at the different destinations, pick one and go there. You will have the most amazing experience, and will end up seeing things that are not on travel guides...
Have fun.

Neu Schwanztein (spelling?) is gorgeous - you'll recognize where Disney got their castle from when you see it.

Neu Schwanstein :-)

... and while you are there take a look at the Wieskirche pretty near. If its Saturday you could also move on to Altenstadt (near Schongau) and make a jump from our Carvan. Next you could go to munich for the Oktoberfest.

Scavi Pompeii is worth a day ;)

Perhaps a sidetrip to Ercolano and a hike up Mt Vesuvius if you have timeB|

Seconded - did that back in March and it was awesome!

I'd also suggest Empuriabrava.

Stockholm is a really beautiful (albeit expensive!) city too.

So that's Europe taken care of... in the UK ;):D:P I recommend London if you haven't done it before, Oxford, Chester and probably Stonehenge (although less impressive in real life than in pics). If visiting Stonehenge, be sure to drop in at Netheravon which is only a few miles away. ;)

Oh yeah - Skydive Locarno in Switzerland - an hour north of Milan by train. By far and away the most beautiful dropzone I've ever skydived at. Nestled in the Swiss Alps - its gorgeous!
W

Ahem, that would be the Italian Swiss Alps, as it is in Ticino/Tessin (Italian/Deutsch).

Why do you people keep saying Interlaken????!!!! Interlaken is just a transit point! It is all about the Lauterbrunnen area!

Re: Balmers: As far as legit cultural experiences, it sucks. If you go there with the mindset that you will be staying at an American Frathouse (sprinkled in with some Aussies, Canadians and others), then it is fine.

In case anyone thinking of going there has the right kind of rig, don't forget to check in at the Horner for the latest closures and other information.

Definitely agreed. But if you're an Aussie (or can carry off the accent well enough) you're almost certain to get laid with an American sorority girl. ;)
