NorthJayhawk 0 #79 August 28, 2005 The National Weather Service has officially predicted that this hurricane will likely be the worst in US history, rivalling even Camille in 1969. New Orleans lies below sea level protected by levies that were designed to keep back water raised by a Category 3 storm. This full blown Cat 5 storm, with record-setting wind speeds and air pressure, is expected to breach the levies and flood all of New Orleans in up to 20 feet of water, requireing literally months to pump all the water out. The idiots near the shore who think they can ride it out are likely going to die. It has gotten to the point where the state of Louisiana has warned that they will not attempt to help anyone who tries to ride the storm out near the shore untill the hurricane passes, because they do not want to send emergency workers on a suicide mission when the city begins to flood. Amanda965 0 #80 August 28, 2005 Hopefully we are not seeing posts right now from this in the gulf area because they better be out of there! My prayers are with everyone in the vicinity of this storm, You all are right, it does not look pretty, especially for New Orleans. Lets hope for the best... HeatherB 0 #81 August 28, 2005 Ugh. A friend of mine and her family are at a hotel right by the lake. They're on the 3rd floor. I don't think she realizes what they're in for. She said it'll be hard being without electicity and water. I'm thinking she has bigger worries than that.
Rookie120 0 #82 August 28, 2005 QuoteHopefully we are not seeing posts right now from this in the gulf area because they better be out of there! Were doing alright so far. I just got out of the swimming pool. Had to cool off a bit. We just had a light rain shower for about 2 minutes and the wind is about 15mph at the time. Not to bad.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
demoss99 0 #83 August 28, 2005 We're firing up the bbq pit and having some people from the DZ and some evacuated friends from New Orleans area over for a hurricane party. Looks like we're only going to be getting some good wind and rain here in Lafayette ( 2 hrs west of NOLA) and there won't be work tomorrow so might as well make the best and enjoy hanging with some friends. Our thoughts go out to everyone in the path. God bless!!!!! "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." waltappel 1 #85 August 28, 2005 QuoteWell, it's been a while since I posted but I'm pretty much scared shitless right now. We're in Slidell just East of New Orleans and we've decided to stay. We don't have the money to get out and the hotels are full anyways. We're in a nice sturdy brick house though and the doors are sandbagged. We don't have renters insurance. Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers. BSBD Christina & Al I'm not one to take the warnings all that seriously, but I have to agree with the other posters in this case. This is a VERY SERIOUS storm headed your way. Here is an excerpt from an article on weather.com: Quote A storm surge of 20 to 25 feet or more is possible along and to the east of Katrina's landfall point Monday. On top of the water rise, pounding waves of 20 to 40 feet will produce catastrophic damage at coastal locations. Forget the winds for now. There is a very real possibility that you will get flooded out and could get trapped. PLEASE GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!!!! Do you guys need a ride? If so, SAY SO!!! I'm sure there are some dz.commers that are within driving distance that will help you out, so PLEASE, GET YOURSELVES AND YOUR ANIMALS (if you have any) OUT OF THERE NOW!!! demoss99 0 #86 August 28, 2005 We evac'd our jump plane this morning. He flew the evac route to north Louisiana and said it was bumper to bumper as far as he could see. PM me if you guys plan on getting out of there. Will definately put you up. Be careful.
