He droppeed both toggles at the last second and curled up in the fetal position to protect his internal organs. He struck the grass hill instantaneously and bounced about 30 feet into the air eventually landing on the concrete tarmac. His pilot chute tangled around one of the runway lights preventing him from hitting the fuel truck. He was wearing a Bonehead Composite camera helmet, which burst into more than 7 pieces upon initial impact.

Holy shit! :o And I thought Fred Goebel's frap there a few years ago was scary! Fred left a good sized impression in the ground when he hooked in, and all he got was a broken eye socket and some blurred vision for a while...

All my best to William for a fast recovery!

Glad to see alittle good news coming out.

I thought I'd cross post this e-mail that came from Mike Igo on the rworg mailing list:

Hello Everyone,

As promised, Leanne and I are trying to keep everyone posted on
William's condition. The prognosis seems to be getting better. I spoke with Laurel
this morning and she relayed the following. William is talking, knew his
name and why he was in the hospital. He was wrong on the year, thinking it was
2000, but I do that often without any head trauma. He removed his own
breathing tube and tried to take his clothes off. When asked to open his eyes and
point his fingers he said he didn't want to. That's the stubborn Marine
coming out. They sedated him again to settle him down so he's resting
comfortably again. Things are looking better and better. We will post more as it
becomes available.

Blue Skies,

Mike

Laurel and William -

Randy's and my thoughts are with you both. While we have not met you, Laurel, we met William the day he made his first skydive. Randy was his AFF instructor. It seems like it was last month!!

Laurel, hang in there. Let your friends do as much for you as possible, and you concentrate on that big sweet man of yours and yourself.

William - keep fighting, heal, listen to your wife and the medical folks, and know that even those of us who are far away physically are still right there with you in spirit.

Hugs and love -

Pam

I was elated this morning when I found out he had been talking but later on that morning, William's blood pressure shot up and his temperature spiked and he has lost consciousness ever since. I'm a very scared girl, but I just know he will pull out of this quickly.

THANK YOU ... THANK YOU ... THANK YOU for all the phone calls and emails and pms and posts. The love feels so good and is keeping me upbeat, strong and sane. :)
