Anyone try Stevia???

Recommended Posts

My wife uses it in her coffee instead of sugar for a sweetener. It s sweet, only a couple of drops needed for a cup of coffee.

I highly recommend it, however, it is well known that Stevia has an aftertaste. You can avoid this by buying high quality stevia. The cheap stuff usually has alcohol in it, which is the source of the aftertaste. The good stuff is expensive, but worth it.

I replaced my beloved Splenda with Stevia and it's great. Yes it costs more but I feel better knowing it is natural and I won't get a migraine from it.

It's been a rollercoaster since I was told I'm hypoglycemic!

Have any of you tried Stevia before, and if you did, did you like it?

I am looking to buy some as well as other healthy supplements/subsitutes. I already googled it, but want to know personal opinions if anyone here has tried itB|

I use stevia concentrate (the dark kind, not clear) in my tea. I love it and I won't substitute anything else even though it's sometimes hard to come by.

That said, there are potential issues with stevia.

Stevia is linked to fertility problems, particularly in men.

Stevia may be linked to cancer, however, the jury is out on that one.

Stevia inhibits carbohydrate metabolism. Not a problem for adults, of course, but you need to be careful about giving it to children.

Some of this may just be part of the campaign by adverse interests to prevent stevia from being approved as a sweetener (right now, it can only be marketed in the US as a supplement).

On the positive side, Stevia (extract) is apparently good for your skin. I think it's too sticky for topical application, but hey, if it works for you, go for it.

It also lowers both blood pressure and blood sugar. For most, this is a benefit. If you have hypotension or hypoglycemia (I have both), it can be a problem.
