windcatcher 0 #1 August 26, 2005 Have any of you tried Stevia before, and if you did, did you like it? I am looking to buy some as well as other healthy supplements/subsitutes. airdweller 0 #2 August 26, 2005 My wife uses it in her coffee instead of sugar for a sweetener. It s sweet, only a couple of drops needed for a cup of coffee.------------------------------------------------------ "From the mightiest pharaoh to the lowliest peasant, who doesn't enjoy a good sit?" Rebecca 0 #4 August 26, 2005 Huh. Never heard of it. Sounds cool though! And here I thought we were going to answer trivia questions about Steve. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
rower 0 #5 August 26, 2005 I highly recommend it, however, it is well known that Stevia has an aftertaste. You can avoid this by buying high quality stevia. The cheap stuff usually has alcohol in it, which is the source of the aftertaste. The good stuff is expensive, but worth it.
skydivermom 0 #6 August 27, 2005 I replaced my beloved Splenda with Stevia and it's great. Yes it costs more but I feel better knowing it is natural and I won't get a migraine from it. It's been a rollercoaster since I was told I'm hypoglycemic!Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
skysprite 0 #7 August 27, 2005 Stevia's great! Agreed that you should get the good stuff! Doesn't take anywhere near as much stevia than sugar to sweeten stuff either.~skysprite

RhondaLea 4 #10 August 27, 2005 QuoteHave any of you tried Stevia before, and if you did, did you like it? I am looking to buy some as well as other healthy supplements/subsitutes. I already googled it, but want to know personal opinions if anyone here has tried it I use stevia concentrate (the dark kind, not clear) in my tea. I love it and I won't substitute anything else even though it's sometimes hard to come by. That said, there are potential issues with stevia. Stevia is linked to fertility problems, particularly in men. Stevia may be linked to cancer, however, the jury is out on that one. Stevia inhibits carbohydrate metabolism. Not a problem for adults, of course, but you need to be careful about giving it to children. Some of this may just be part of the campaign by adverse interests to prevent stevia from being approved as a sweetener (right now, it can only be marketed in the US as a supplement). On the positive side, Stevia (extract) is apparently good for your skin. I think it's too sticky for topical application, but hey, if it works for you, go for it. It also lowers both blood pressure and blood sugar. For most, this is a benefit. If you have hypotension or hypoglycemia (I have both), it can be a problem. rlIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. BGill 0 #11 August 28, 2005 we offer it as a substitute for turbinado (unrefined sugar) in our smoothies at work. 2 packets of stevia for every 8th cup of turb. i don't notice a difference in taste at all.
