kelel01 1 #1 August 16, 2005 So a little rain came through the Atlanta area today, and apparently . . . ATLANTA FOLKS CAN'T DRIVE FOR SHIT! I passed at least 8 accidents on the way home (one of which I sat directly behind for 10 minutes, because I was jamming out in my car and just thought traffic wasn't moving ). The first one I passed was unbelievable - it was an 8-car pile-up, and a Honda CRV had managed to get ON TOP OF (all the way on top) a Nissan Sentra. I can't even imagine how that happened, but I bet the CRV driver was hurt. The Sentra wasn't even crushed, so that SUV made one helluva jump. The thing I figured out (in addition to the fact that Atlanta people can't drive) is that I think I know how to tell when the DOT closes for happy hours and such. There were a million accidents out there, but the traffic signs all had the smog alert on them. I think they turn that generic sign on when they don't feel like working. But thank goodness I'm home now. I don't think I got above 10 mph the whole way.
PsychoBob 0 #2 August 17, 2005 I hate driving through ATL. For me where I-285 west joins I-75 by the Cobb Galleria is a pain in the ass. Not to mention spagetti junction. Thank God for Capt. Irv on WSB for the traffic updates. They at least let you plan ahead so you can bring a copy of "War & Peace" while you wait."I'm not a gynecologist but I will take a look at it" RB #1295, Smokey Sister #1, HellFish #658, Dirty Sanchez #194, Muff Brothers #3834, POPS #9614, Orfun Foster-Parent?" marcandalysse 0 #4 August 17, 2005 It rained today? I saw that it got darker outside, but I was inside till 8pm...and never saw any rain. I never want to drive in Atlanta. For now I am happy to sit in the train to work. I do have a car story today though. A coworker and I went to tamarind thai restaurant near work tonite. Instead of parking in the restaurant lot, he parked across the street on 14th and Spring. When we came out, the car had a 'boot' on two wheels. That's when we noticed the sign with the $2.50 parking fee mentioned. Instead, we waited around for the truck to show up and unlock the tires....for $50 !!!! That was one expensive thai dinner in atlanta! marc

airtwardo 7 #9 August 17, 2005 I see several comments about how people can't drive in one city or another... Let me tell you, here in Houston....these Cowboys can D R I V E ! When we first moved here about 7 years ago from San Diego, I had made a couple of trips driving the cars here...Fly there - drive back. The final trip I'm in Mom's Vette, been driving ALL freaking night 26 hrs on the road, I hit Houston downtown traffic at 5:30 AM... Ya gotta picture this...I'm runnin' 75MPH through the loop..getting PASSED by Garbage Trucks....WITH GUYS hanging on the outside of 'em!! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
chaoskitty 0 #10 August 17, 2005 Thats because Houston smells so bad, you have to drive fast or you get overwhelmed..
JohnMitchell 16 #11 August 17, 2005 Sounds like Phoenix drivers when it rains in Arizona. Grandma and Grandpa creep along the wet streets like they're driving on black ice next to the Grand Canyon. Hilarious, unless you're stuck behind them trying to get to Eloy.

marcandalysse 0 #15 August 17, 2005 QuoteReal-time traffic info for ATL metro I don't need that! heheheh....It's nice sitting on the train watching the view, reading my magazine, ipod providing the soundtrack....I've decided that I will not take any projects in Atlanta unless the jobsite is on the train line! marc
pyke 0 #16 August 17, 2005 Unfortunately - you're not telling anyone in Atlanta anything they don't already know. For some reason...rain/fog/inclement weather of any kind = pandemonium. Typical atlanta situation: driver is in car bee-bopping to music down the freeway when all of a sudden....a rain drop hits the windshield..... Driver A: "Oh my god.....a rain drop.....ahhhhhh..." [turns drastically into the median at top speed only to careen off into at least 3 other cars] Driver B [following not too close behind]: "cool - an accident.....think I'll slow down suddenly to have a look" (repeat Driver B at least 300 times for all following traffic) Or another situation I love..... Driver C, not paying attention, hits the BUMPER of Driver D in rush hour traffic. Driver D - not wanting to tarnish the "scene of a crime" puts on their brake and hazard lights and gets out of their vehicle....in the MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC to exchange insurance information and wait on the police. (note - the vehicle still runs and aside from a body blemish....is in perfect condition) 4 F***ING hours later....they leave the scene of their "accident" and traffic JUST BEGINS to clear up. We were supposed to follow a guy in a Blazer, but it started raining and we lost him. When it stopped raining we caught up to him. We followed him for 10 minutes and when he turned off, we followed. Eventually, he pulled into a driveway and we realized that had we followed the wrong guy and he was home now.
