mailin 0 #1 August 11, 2005 So I've spent alot of money this year on skydiving... way too much actually. My husband on the other hand stood by idle while I spent all our money Tonight that all changed, as we walked into Tweeter center (a high level electronics store) and walked out with a brand new Bose home entertain speaker system, a Yamaha XM Ready AV receiver ampli-tuner (audio/video) and lots of cabels and brackets. WOo HoO!! Our living room is now the mecca of home audio. With our new DVD-Audio player and turntable I never have to leave the comforts of my house to listen to good music. I'll be having dreams about this system for the next month. Even the sales guy said he'd never seen anyone as excited as me in the showroom before (ok, so it was his second day, but I'll take it as a compliment ). Gonna put on some Miles Davis soon - followed by the portishead CD I just bought. Everyone's welcome to come over for a listen, just don't step on the cats JenArianna Frances
AggieDave 6 #2 August 11, 2005 May I suggest fully testing your system with some Holst...perhaps Mars from The Planets? Or how about Bach Organ Fugue in G Minor? Of course Overture to Candide by Bernstein would really push some nice sound. Even Irish Tune from County Derry by Percy Granger would be cool to hear on a really strong and full system. Or if you're still in a jazz mood, how about something with a fuller section besides the lyrical musings of master Davis? Maybe some Stan Kenton (Malaguena is always good) or Count Basie...oh, the recording of A Night In Tunisia by Charlie Parker and Dizzy at Carnegie Hall would be a real treat on a system like that. Or you could just jump to some Maynard, preferably his early stuff or his latest stuff with Scott Englebright playing lead trumpet.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mailin 0 #3 August 11, 2005 ooh Dave, you just gave me a great idea! Ives, I must test the new system with the Charles Ives 1 & 4 Symphonies CD I 're-found' last night! Ooh, I don't even like Ives all that much, but I might if its in 5.1 surround Funny you should mention Charlie Parker - we were just saying we should pick up one of his on vinyl soon. I have a CD, but vinyl and Jazz were just meant to go together OMG - I think I'm in heaven, my house is gonna rock now! JenArianna Frances
flyangel2 2 #4 August 11, 2005 Hey, turn it down, I can hear the music here at my houseMay your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Sen.Blutarsky 0 #6 August 11, 2005 Several years ago I did what you just did and I've never regretted it, well at least the sticker shock wore off eventually, sort of (I happened to go with NAIM.) From hereafter you can arrive at the sanctuary of your home music sphere, immerse yourself, and the outside world doesn't matter a whole lot, or at least it can be conveniently put off until another day, have a glass of wine dear Congrats on a lifestyle choice! GQ_jumper 4 #9 August 11, 2005 If your system is XM ready and you want to test it, check out XM channel 81, all the channels in tghe 80's are dance music but 81 is the best, I crank my system on 81 all the time, and luv it enjoy the beats DanHistory does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. mailin 0 #10 August 11, 2005 I'm trying to justify having digital music stations on my cable and getting XM too... but no 5.1 on the cable stations... I'm surprised I'm even awake right now - we were up to 2 AM putting it all together and testing the levels - boy, it sounds amazing. Listened to Peter Gabriel this morning - wow! I think I'll go home and get drunk just listening to tunes JenArianna Frances
matt91078 0 #11 August 11, 2005 excellent choices. i bought my bose home theater system ,yamaha receiver, and dvd player in 1998 and have never second guessed myself on the purchases. they have given me and many friends countless hours of soothing or rockin' music, let alone the dolby digital BIG sounds of many movies. enjoy. Darius11 12 #12 August 11, 2005 Does this mean you can now burn my goddam DVDs Make me brownies The best way to test a system is to put on some Slayer, Megadeth, old Metallica, and some Death. Don't forget Alice in chains and Nirvana. Make sure your turn it up so i can i hear it where i am.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
