Knobee 0 #1 August 10, 2005 Ok, I've done 3 tandem jumps and, for family reasons, probably won't be able to continue the sport (though I'd love to). Now, the question: am I still a whuffo? Discuss... Those that have not jumped can not understand Those that have jumped can not explain.

Discuss... Nope!!! You've probably hear the story about how the term "whuffo" came about, so I won't bore you with it. After a few tandems, you KNOW why people jump out of "perfectly good airplanes", so you ain't no whuffo! Walt
marcandalysse 0 #5 August 10, 2005 your sig line says it.... QuoteThose that have not jumped can not understand Those that have jumped can not explain. the 'whuffo' hasn't understood till he has done it. that being said, there's a lot more to the sport than tandem....like exiting, deploying and landing on your own... marc

I've yet to jump without instructors but I will tell you, after having dropped from 13K with my own parachute, I can say it's an experience I'd never want to have taken away. Knobee 0 #9 August 10, 2005 QuoteScrew the family and go make a solo. Then come back and tell us how you feel. Ah, it's not that. My wife has also made 3 jumps with me (she actually exited before I did each time... why do they keep putting me on the plane FIRST? #&@#*&$) The issue is the ability to continue jumping with enough regularity to not cause issues.. My kids (10 and 12) who can't jump yet deserve my time as well.. My weekends are filled with soccer, school related stuff, church, etc. etc. It's hard to be sure that I can keep up jumping every 30 days, and I don't want to become a danger due to 'stagnation'. I've almost rationalized that I'd rather not solo just because I don't want to know what I'm missing. This post which I posted in the wrong thread (didn't realize there was a numbers for each weekend) tells more of the story. 1 CASA, 2 Otters -- life is good. Those that have not jumped can not understand Those that have jumped can not explain.

Girlfalldown 0 #11 August 10, 2005 I must say it's nice to read when someone realizes the dangers of not being current. Maybe when your kids are a bit older you'll have more time and can come back and have another go at it! At least you got to enjoy the few jumps you had. In my opinion you aren't a whuffo even if you didn't jump solo. You were working towards something, not just jumping so you could tell your friends you jumped. Good luck to you and your family and maybe someday we'll see you again! -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)
ChrisL 2 #12 August 10, 2005 Quote Now, the question: am I still a whuffo? Nope. You are not a whuffo. But then again, you arent a skydiver either. kelel01 1 #13 August 10, 2005 To add to what ChrisL said, I think you are now a "non-whuffo". That is your official categorization. As am I, at the moment, 'cause I haven't jumped out of any planes recently.
