FlyingTed 0 #1 August 9, 2005 Hi guys I`m in the US (Iowa) since 3 weeks and I`ll go back home (Germany) in the middle of October. Anyway, last week I watched the Baseball Game of the Milwaukee Brewers - San Fransisco Giants in the Miller Park in Milwaukee. They were standing around all the time and hit the ball only a few times. Ok, some guys were not so bad, but all in all it was not so interesting I thought it would be. Last Friday I was in Mankato, Minnesota to go to a Vikings Football Game. Hey, and I thought Baseball is boring... - There are about 70 men in one team and they can live from the money they were paid. I can`t believe that. Sport is so popular in the US and almost all athletes get a lot of money. I didn`t really like the game. It was boring, because they played against their own team-mates (game after a training camp) and didn`t tackle so hard like they normally do. I don`t know. All these sports are really more interesting on TV, so I think it`s better for me to stay at home to watch them. Sorry guys for my thoughts, but I had to write them down. Please tell me your opinion. And maybe there is somebody out there living in or near Waterloo to talk to or to drink a "beer" with. Stay safe. Kat #1094
funks 1 #2 August 9, 2005 I think you need to go suck on a bratwurst or something football boring??? you need to stay for an extra couple of weeks and go to a regular season game. Plenty of excitement, drunkeness and what we here refer to as tailgating....it is customary for all german females to attend games topless, its the law. Is it common for german chicks to be named ted?
Evelyn 0 #3 August 9, 2005 I agree with you. I think baseball and football and especially golf are extremely boring. I think skydiving, snowboarding and motor cross are not so boring. . I don't get the whole spectator sports thing. It's kind of like watching porn: ok for a while, but it doesn't take long for me to start thinking I would rather be doing than watching. In the case of watching baseball or football, I start thinking that I'd rather be doing just about anything except watching baseball or football. Same goes for basketball. I could probably tolerate watching ladies' mud wrestling a bit longer, but not all that much longer. Walt
FlyingTed 0 #5 August 9, 2005 Ok, ok - sorry. Maybe the problem was that I didn`t drink so much and I was wearing my top all the time. Oh, I forgot golf. #1094
waltappel 1 #6 August 9, 2005 QuoteI agree with you. I think baseball and football and especially golf are extremely boring. I think skydiving, snowboarding and motor cross are not so boring. . Golf?!!! Oh my GAWD!!!! I didn't think about golf!!! Watching that is like slow torture! You just sit there and wish for God to strike you down with a lightning bolt that will put you out of your misery! When I lived in good ol' Johnson City, NY, where there is little to do other than get drunk and think of different ways to kill yourself, some bad-weather weekends I found myself with a limited selection of what to watch on TV. Sometimes it boiled down to choosing between golf or fishing. At least with fishing, there is usually some good scenery. Another lame thing to watch in TV is bowling! In that case, I think guys who spend a lot of time watching other guys play sports are latent homosexuals! Wait a minute. Maybe I am losing my manliness! Shit!!! Ok, I won't start worrying until I start watching Oprah (gag!!!) and Dr. Phil (double gag--he's a traitor to his gender!!!) and I start thinking that Hillary Clinton is a fine human being. rasmack 0 #16 August 9, 2005 You know very well that is not football. You are talking about American football which is a game designed for commercial breaks. Du solltest dich schämen für sowas zu schreiben! As for what real football is, you (as in "the rest of you") can look Here or Here.HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... jimbarry 0 #18 August 9, 2005 QuoteAmerican football which is a game designed for commercial breaks. Damn straight. You don't need to pee, or grab a new cold bottle every once in a while? QuoteAs for what real football is, you (as in "the rest of you") can look Here or Here. 90 minutes of "action" for a good chance of a nil-nil or one-nil finish, and a yellow card for any decent contact. Sounds like too much excitement for me... (yawwwwnnn...) But then there's Aussie Rules football. Those dudes are f'n nuts...
lawrocket 3 #19 August 9, 2005 I'll take the other side here. I find sports - practically all sports - fascinating to watch. When I was across the pond in Old Blighty for a week back in 01, I found myself riveted to the tube watching a test match in cricket (for us Yanks, it's a three day match) where Butcher became an icon, at least temporarily. I went to a cricket match, too, and was invited to lunch with a team, which I thought was nice. Football is an amazing sport and the more you know about it the more you'll see what is going on. Soccer is a great sport - like baseball, if you think nothing is happening, you just aren't paying attention. Hockey? There is no greater sport to watch in person, in my opinion. Even my Mexican best friend got totally into it following my and another friend's tutelage. My goodness, you people sound like whuffos... My wife is hotter than your wife. Both are just side activities that compliment drinking...think of them as outdoor versions of billiards and darts. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" tsisson 0 #23 August 9, 2005 Baseball to me is the greatest thing on earth...I grew up with the sport and have been lucky enough to see the game played and coached properly from the little league to major league levels. For me, baseball combines the best of athleticism, strategy, and a bit of luck to make for high drama. Post season baseball is about my favorite time...I'm still reeling over the Yankees/Diamondback's world series in 2001. Being a fan of the game and not loyal to either team that year, I have to say it was about the most exciting series I have ever witnessed.
