jtval 0 #51 July 27, 2005 Quote hmm so if your a "athlete" its easy to play other "sports" that require the use of athletes, so a great "athlete" could easily compete in all sports, but not golf... I don't know where randy was going with his comment but he didnt say that he said "because Golf is a game, and being good at another Sport doesnt nessearily mean you will be good at the game of Golf.... however better physical fitness lends itself to learning anything physical..even the game of golf.. " Quote Well if golf is so much of a non challenge, i mean winning 10 majors quicker then anyone else ever doesnt even get you 6% of the vote, then why's it so hard for the big bad athletes to convert to this simple "game" i mean hell it takes about as much talent as candy land right? you know candy land another game... Plenty of "athletes" try to play competitvly, but just dont cut it. they have to do it recreationally, because they dont have the talent to compete with ANYONE on the PGA tour, some dont even make the seniors tour... I guess being an "athlete" makes you incapable of mastering such a simple game.... now you're just being silly but randy also said this "and while Golf does require a good set of skills to play well.. it also takes YEARS to develop those skills to competitive levels...."My photos My Videos
jtval 0 #52 July 27, 2005 yes it was thanks! And no I didnt say physical strenght didnt matter, I said it needs to be tuned differently. strength is different for each sport. Barry Bonds is strong, but probably would do well in cycling, or swimming. Strenght doesnt JUST mean you have to be 500 pounds of muscle. you build your muscles to the sport you are try to perfect. ok So a combination of strength and skill is what it takes. I agree but the LEVEL of that combination is where I believe it falls short of being athletic...but that eliminates the trash guy. (for the record- I don't think those musckle heads would do well at swimming. muscles weight alot. )My photos My Videos

HEY there was plenty of seriousness in that sillyness dammit! I agree that golf is not the most "physically fit" sport, no doubt, but I dont think you need to be physcially fit, to be an athlete. Just because you can run 10 miles doesnt make you an athlete, and just because you cant, doesnt mean your not. Wrestlers are great examples of who I would consider great athletes, but most couldnt do these other "sports" what was that russians name that dominated wrestling for like 8 years, until rulon gardnier (sp?) beat him on like his last match? that guy DOMINATED a very physical sport, but was HUGE, and probably could run 10 miles, or ride a bike 100 miles. But that doesnt make him any less of an athlete. And I know what your reply will be, "but in wrestling your exerting energy, strength..." but just because your strength is used in other ways, doesnt mean you dont use it.---- -God, you are the perfect amount of dumb... jtval 0 #56 July 27, 2005 but don't confuse a sport with athetisism (SP?) ( won't even import the def of sport here from websters what a mess that would be) wrestling is NOT a sport. but it DOES take agility , physical strength and lots of training ans stamina. so they qualify as athletes. as I stated before GOLF make take some combination of training and stamina but its the intensity that I am weary ofMy photos My Videos
banjobill 0 #57 July 27, 2005 Quote I golf, and I still don't consider golfers athletes. You "golf"? I don't suppose you "tennis", do you. Golfers "play golf", hackers "golf". But you're right about whether they're athletes. With Jon Daly up there among the top golfers on the PGA tour, it's hard to argue that golfers, at any level, are athletes because they play the game.....with a capital P and that rhymes with T and that spells TROUBLE!!! BigSky 2 #58 July 27, 2005 Quote so the harder I hit the ball the further it goes? so If I went to the gym and became an athletic weight lifter my golf game would improve? Not at all, that's where the agility part comes in. like hitting a baseball, throwing a football, or shooting a basket ball. Just being strong will only get you so far with any of these skills.“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. happythoughts 0 #61 July 29, 2005 I am amazed that there is a Fishing Channel. Let's face it, how lazy do you have to be that you can't even sit there and drink all day ? "I think today I will turn on the tv, sit down, and watch others sit."
