JoeyRamone 0 #1 July 21, 2005 Sorry if this was posted just thought it was a cool picture. A 1100 lbs shark.... http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/4746503/detail.html Massive Shark Caught Off Vineyard Contestant Misses Deadline By 6 Minutes POSTED: 10:21 am EDT July 20, 2005 UPDATED: 12:41 pm EDT July 20, 2005 OAK BLUFFS, Mass. -- It wasn't too little, but it was too late. Fishermen who hauled in a massive 1,100 pound tiger shark off Massachusetts this past weekend failed to capture first place in the monster shark derby on Martha's Vineyard. The reason: The boat was six minutes too late in returning to Oak Bluffs harbor with its catch. The toothy tiger shark may not have won the competition, but it did win the admiration of other fishermen. Steven James of the Boston Big Game Fishing Club said this truly was a monster shark, and one that "could eat you."

weegegirl 2 #4 July 21, 2005 I'm with you on this one, Rob. That shark is so freakin cool! It's HUGE and powerful and beautiful. Some knuckleheads took that away from the rest of us for some silly competition. Bummer.

skydiverbrian 0 #10 July 21, 2005 Sport killing is wasteful and destructive, but sharks are not endangered. (see the most recent endangered species list ) Hopefully, the folks around the Vineyard will be enjoying shark steaks and shark soup for a few weeks to come. jimmytavino 16 #13 July 21, 2005 What a Majestic Animal.. .. the grotesque photo is insulting and does not do Justice to this Shark.... Over some fishing derby???? How Ironic that it was disqualified... That should say something to to all those "sportsmen" who entered.... The natural world of this Planet is varied and Amazing,,, all except for the Human Animal , which is confusing , bewildering and often disrespectful of the very environment in which it lives. karenmeal 0 #18 July 21, 2005 I had Shark for dinner last night! I prefer salmon, but something feels nice about eating such a big huge scary monster of an animal. I'm on the passive aggressive diet. From the website: QuoteHere's the tiger on the cutting board. The meat was donated to the Long Island Council of Churches, derby organizers said. I'm kind of wondering about the people that are horrified over this shark being killed...do you eat salmon? Because this shark is bigger it has more right to live? Just wondering. The meat is going to a good cause... Edit to add: I don't fault anybody for that reaction; my first reaction was "Why would you just kill it for no reason?" Then I started thinking about it...if you can eat it, I guess it's no different than grilled Mahi Mahi...nobody freaks out over a bass fishing contest. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. BlindBrick 0 #21 July 21, 2005 You know if they just let the hunters hunt animal rights activist the world would be a better place. The hunter would be happy because they got to bag something The activists would die happy knowing they saved an animal And I would be very happy as then I owuldn't have to listen to either side bitch whenever the other side does something. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." I see nothing wrong with trying to protect animals that do nothing but try to exsist in this world. But hey why try to have a balance and regulate hunting lets just shoot everything... I like hunting but I eat the meat and put the animal to use and I wouldn't go hunting an endangered species just to boost my ego...Maybe people that do that should just go pay for a Penis enlargment!!! ***Glory Favors the Bold***
 Jib 0 #23 July 21, 2005 I think we should be more concerned with Asian commercial shark fisherman who take only the fins by the thousands and throw the carcasses back. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v.
