Emoticons are taller than a text line

Recommended Posts

On my system (XP, IE, default font size), emoticons are a few pixels bigger than the height of a text line. That means that if I include an emoticon (like a smiley :)
Does anybody else find this annoying to the point where you stop using emoticons unless they are in single line sentences?

I would post in the bug forum, but I'm not sure if anybody even cares. I'm known for my anal retentiveness anyway.

;)

See, that one should have gone after the sentence, instead of it's own line. But that would ruin the continuity of my post. Arg...

Today I found myself rewording a paragraph to work around the emoticon spacing problem and figured it was time for action!

You know they have medication for stuff like that, right? ;)

Probably, but as long as I'm a happy person and nobody else suffers, I don't see the harm.

:)
While I take this much too serious, I do hold the opinion that if more of us would try to use the shift-key on their keyboard, hit the period and comma occassionally and aim to write full sentences, communicating on these boards would become a lot easier.

Aim to make the reader's life easy. Even if that means trying to get your lines evenly spaced.

I was just teasing you. The emoticon thing has never bothered me, but I do agree that the forums are much easier to read when people try to use proper grammar and punctuation.

The size doesn't bother me as much as emoticon abuse. As much as I like some people who post here, sometimes their posts' blatant emoticon overload makes me look away or go to the next post.

That's because the mods aren't enforcing the smiley limit.... no more than 8 smileys per post!

*Yes, this is very tongue-in-cheek*

it's even worse if you surf with images off, but image placehoders on. (i do it to keep my name out of the top surfers list;)). the placeholder, for whatever reason, is almost two lines high.
