Trip for Two...where to go?

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend is finally coming back from overseas (Iraq) in just over a couple of weeks, and I was hoping that some of you would have ideas for a trip for two, that we plan on taking in mid-August. The ideal trip/place would be relatively inexpensive, not too far, a little exotic, perhaps a bit secluded and somewhat romantic. We'd prefer a beach location, where there is good surf. Luxury is very nice, yet not a necessity at all. (We probably can't afford it, anyway. LOL.)

He is an avid surfer, and we love to hike, camp and do anything outdoors. We both used to climb a lot and also both used to scuba dive, but we're not doing either of those two things this time. I'm not skydiving, either. I would be interested in a new location or new activity, that he and I could discover together, but this trip is more for relaxation and for us to spend some quality time together.

Please let us know if you have any special suggestions for us. Any and all new ideas/suggestions are welcome. Thank you! :)

Thailand! I'm heading over there in mid August, it 's warm, relatively cheap, relaxing (if you go to the right places), secluded (again, if you go to the right places) and there's tonnes of fun stuff to do. If you want something new to do with your boyfriend kayaking is lots of fun! Failing all this stuff, the Thai's could really use some tourists to help them back on their feet. Everyone wins!

I gotta Agree with Rky and Paige.

Sounds Like Costa Rica is the place for you.

The Black Sand Beaches in Jaco are great. Good Surf, Low Prices and Friendly people. Also try to get up to Arenal for the Volcanic Hot Springs and watch the Evening Natural Fireworks show from the Volcano while soaking in the Hot Springs and then go hit the Zip Lines for a great Canopy Tour.

Spencer and I cannot go there now. We are going to Costa Rica (or right around that way) soon, but it's for upcoming "work" purposes. (I cannot explain right now.) We need to go to another "perfect" place. Sorry for the confusion, and thank you all for the lovely suggestions.

We really enjoy finding new places to explore, especially places that (for example) have clothing optional hot springs in exotic and difficult to find locations. That is exactly the kind of trip that he and I would enjoy. Please keep the suggestions coming and be specific. Thank you all! :)

Not on the ocean, but Napa Valley is beautiful in August. Lots of bed and breakfasts to stay at, plus wine tasting and great restaurants. Also, you can take a balloon ride over the vinyards, they launch out of Vintage 1870.

Derek and I need to make another trip out there, probably in Aug or Sept. Depends if his Mom will lift the dog ban, since my senior dog isn't doing very well right now and I don't want to leave her home with a pet sitter.

Ever thought of taking him to Peru?

Take the trip to Machu Picchu... its a really magical place in the clouds.

I was born in Peru, and we may be going there for the holidays.

Edited: Yes, I agree that Machu Picchu in Cusco is simply magical. He'd love to go someday, but for now, we are looking for something new for the two of us to do in August.

COSTA RICA!!!!B|

I just went to CR and it was beautiful. I went on a hike to the bottom of the tallest waterfall and had an awesome time. it would have been better (safer)if i wasn't by myself but still a great time for all. oh yeah, get a good map (as detailed as possible) if you plan on driving. there are very little or no street signs.

On the ocean, beautiful, an easy four to five hour drive from the LA basin - the Central Coast of California.

Beaches ranging from the stereotypical California beach (the type you see in the movies) to rock and driftwood strewn beaches at the edge of bluffs and cliffs. Things to do/see include surfing (bring wetsuits), beachbumming, hiking, biking (mtn and road), backroads touring, wine tasting, Hearst Castle, art galleries, shopping (some great "offbeat" stores), dining from burgers to gourmet...

Downside is lodging, gas and restaurants are a bit pricey. Weather is usually warm (70's-80's) in August along the coast (with some chance of coastal fog) and hot (90+) inland.

I agree that it's a nice drive up the coast. Yes, we've done the coastal drive all the way to and back from San Francisco, actually. It was great, and there were plenty of places to surf. It's another possibility. Thanks for the suggestion!
