moodyskydiver 0 #30 January 14, 2004 QuoteI haven't gotten to my new hood piercing but that is also cleaned naturally. It is however a good idea to use antibacterial soap twice a day. I usually just keep a little bottle in the shower and do it in there. My hood healed up way fast!! I was amazed at how easily and fast my hood (vertical) healed. The actual piercing in terms of pain was about what I had expected but it wasnt a lingering pain and everything was fine within 24-48hrs.I cleaned with antibacterial/antimicrobial soap twice daily and soaked with sea salt every other day. The only thing that sucked was the piercer told me not to play with it or have sex for 6 weeks to be sure it was completely healed before exposing it to "fluids and outside contact". My piercer told me that the best jewelry for this particular piercing was an internally threaded 316LVM grade steel.I've had trouble finding places that actually tell what grade of metal their jewelry is made of and I don't trust those cheapy places in the mall.I was wondering if anyone else's piercer talked extensively about jewelry? Paige 0 #31 January 14, 2004 All of my friends do but most sergical stainles steel is the grad theat you quoted. Most reputable shops use at least that. Glad to hear your piercing healed up nice. Mine was the same way!Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com

blueskyserenity 0 #34 January 15, 2004 For those of us not "schooled" in piercings, however intrigued by them...where exactly in the female genitalia does a hood piercing go and how does positioning (vertical, etc.) factor in?I like coconuts. You can break them open and they smell like ladies lying in the sun!
Paige 0 #35 January 15, 2004 Here is a web site with what ya need. There are pics so you can see the difference and there is care info. on there too. Hope this helps! http://www.totallypierced.com.au/webpages/hood-piercing.html Positioning is usually chosen by the piercer but you have the option of vertical or horizontal. I have vertical, a little more painful but I liked the look of it.Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
blueskyserenity 0 #36 January 15, 2004 Thanks! That helped alot. Advantage/disadvantage of ring v/s rod other than looks? I'm sure my terminology is off. Please pardon. Still not clear on vertical positioning though.I like coconuts. You can break them open and they smell like ladies lying in the sun!

Paige 0 #38 January 15, 2004 Usually for a verticle you use a barbell (I believe in the link I posted, a barbell was used in the middle picture. Ball on each end. Usually for a horizontal you use a hoop or captive bead (I believe the other two pics in the link). Advantages of hoop, easier to clean, more room to rotate the jewerly. Advantages of Barbell, comfortable, cute (my fav. that's why I got one). Down side, if you don't have a barbell big enough, cleaning all of the shit out of the hole may be a little tougher. Just make sure you take good care of it and push the jewerly as far as it will go through the hole so you get out all the gunk. Don't push so hard that it will hurt but make sure there are no things left behind not being cleaned. Hope this helpsTunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
moodyskydiver 0 #39 January 15, 2004 QuoteAnd also, how long before you can have sex again? (both oral and traditional) I'm sure Paige has better info than I do, but from my own personal experience my piercer told me not to have any sexual contact for 6 weeks b/c of the risk of infection or problems caused by foreign bodily fluids, friction and other "outside contact". It sucks and might sound a bit unnecessary but thats what she told me.Although it may feel completely healed, it might not be.Its just a safety precaution. If you want any other info feel free to PM me. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."

No problem and no need to apologize. We're all here to teach, learn and inform each other right?Happy to help though.6 weeks sounded like an aweful long time to me too when my piercer told me.Ofcourse she told me after she had already done the piercing and was going over aftercare(maybe less ppl would get a VCH if they new they had to wait so long LOL!)But I survived it and since I'm a single gal that doesnt have intimacy readily available it didnt really matter. But its like a good friend of mine told me, "getting this piercing is kinda like experimenting with sex toys for the first time, you're timid and unsure at first but once you have it you wonder why you didnt get it sooner." He was so right.I've had this piercing about 4 months now and have no regrets. "...just an earthbound misfit, I."
skybrat68 0 #47 January 16, 2004 I have my navel my tongue pierced. My navel hurt far far worse than my tongue. I was one of the lucky ones for the tongue piercing, the piercing and recovery was a breeze for me. My swelling was so minimal it was practically nonexistent and I barely even felt the piercing. Once the bar bell was in, it simply felt a bit tight (if you will). It was suggested to me to use an OTC antiseptic oral cleaner called Gly-Oxide on my tongue piercing. I was completely healed within 3 weeks to a month. I can tell you what NOT to use on a fresh navel piercing. Mine was hurting so bad the day after the piercing that I completely discounted anything I was told not to use to promote healing. I used Neosporin triple antibiotic cream with pain reliever. Oh, it did the job. The piercing felt much better but the cream was doing it's job so well, it was causing my body to reject the ring. It's kinda hard to explain. It's still in there, in there good enough to pull on it as hard as I want without the risk of pulling the ring thru the skin (if that were possible). I'm luck I didn't have to go have it redone. For the first three days of a new navel piercing, you should use a little neosporin around the holes in the morning and at night. This helps your body close off new holes that are prone to germs and infection. If your bellybutton was infected and had a hard time healing, it was probably rejected a little because of this. When someone's body decides to reject a piercing, it tries to force itself out of your skin because it is trying to rid your body of the infection. It does so by pushing out and thus the jewerly can go with it. Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
