kingbunky 3 #1 July 4, 2005 ..and the mudslides and the wildfires. after all, mother nature is all about balance, and she had to come up with something nasty to counter all the amazing landscaping she did there. where else on earth can you find 130+ temps at 180' below sea level, to snow by the roadside at 9500' in the same day? after awhile we had to stop stopping to take pictures because it was taking too long to get anywhere. i just got back from my two week vegas/frisco/la/perris trip. i won't bore anyone with a thorough travelogue, but there are a few pics here if yer interested. the pics only cover the first half of the trip. i'm trying to pick out some from the pacific coast highway, los angeles area and perris to complete the gallery. the saddest thing i saw the whole trip was finding a GAP at the corner of haight and ashbury in san francisco. just didn't seem right. too many cool things to list, and had to leave some of them off due to time. coulda either spent two weeks in each place, or at least a month total, but work and $$ wouldn't allow that. i put 1950 miles on the rental car, and it feels like that much again on my sneakers. kingbunky 3 #4 July 4, 2005 actually we couldn't go through yosemite because the highway was still blocked with snow! we went in a little ways anyway, hoping that we could get close enough to get some pics of a snow blocked highway in california in june, but a guy rolled a truck (freightliner type, not a pick-up) not far in. we actually got there before most of the rescue crews and stuff, but the driver wasn't injured (small cut on his forehead) and we got chased out. where was i? oh yeah, yosemite was closed, the devil's postpile (around mammoth) was closed due to snow, so we ended up going across the sonora pass."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." ECVZZ 0 #8 July 4, 2005 The view of Pickle Meadows and the southern Sierra from the east side of Sonora pass looks like a post card doesn't it. hookitt 1 #9 July 4, 2005 This morning I called my Mom while sitting on a ridge not too far south of San Francisco. Here's a picture of the view taken with my cell phone. Bummer the pass is still closed, Tioga Pass is one of the most incredibly beautiful drives. Did you come out of Death Valley on Hwy 190 to Hwy 395, if so..... what did you think of Mt. Whitney??
