i was talking about this with another student.... what happens to the 30 jump jumpers? you know, the jumpers that get their license (or came close), made a few jumps and disappeared. the stress of buying gear? cost of rentals? or or do they freak out once they don't have a coach right there on every jump? does it get boring or something? or did they just quit logging onto dz.com and their info is way outdated?

It's hard to say. By the time you get your license you've already spent a good chunk of change, so I doubt it's purely financial. I guess the sport and perhaps more importantly, the people at your dropzone just have to rub you the right way during the "shiny new A-license" phase.

If you tear open the envelope your A-license comes in and the first thing you do (besides say, "Hmm... Hertz Discount... That's kinda random.") is slap that blue sticker on your car, chances are it's rubbing you the right way.

I had a nightmare I fell out of a Huey without a parachute. As I passed through the haze (couldn't see the ground) I pulled a .45 Colt out of my webbing and shot myself in the temple instead of impacting. Quite a realistic dream. I went out and signed up for a FJC a week later and got my A license through the IAD program. Never had a dream like that again (I did have a few dreams about streamers, though) ;)

DZO made me an offer I couldn't refuse....:|[:/]

Actually, I have an adrenaline-addicted brother who talked me into it back in '77....when he and Scotty Carbone were still young pups. ;)

I guess what set my mind was a local skydiving groupie who did her share of the work with me in getting a C-47 rockin' and rolling after dark....:)
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
