What's your "Other" sport?

Recommended Posts

Sailing.

I grew up in a port town that under Western convention dates to its 'discovery' by LaSalle in 1692, and I have sailed and raced the large yachts that other people own through many of the worlds waterways including the oceans.

I can sail almost the entire Great Lakes without needing compass or map (I am not welcome in Sarnia Ontario, however), I just need to know which body of water I'm on and the time of year. Of course this ability doesn't have much value given GPS. But I have my fun and, most importantly, get to share it with others.

(Edited: to change the date I should have known with accuracy but that had to pointed out to me by an Allegan friend who shares my passion for freshly-made Dean's Blackberry icecream from Dean's of Allegan Michigan)

I love cycling. It's so nice getting done with a long ride and laying on the couch afterwards. You don't realize how tired you are until you stop riding. The Tour starts in a few days.

Awesome! I rowed for four years in college and have been coaching for a while now. I never did a marathon on the erg, but I did row a marathon in a coxed 4. We used to go to Atlanta for a regatta in the spring, but haven't been in a few years. Check www.row2k.com classifieds for some used sculls. Sorry about the thread jacking. I'm done.

There are other rowers? Cool!!! I love it so much that I'm saving my money for regattas rather than jumping. I'm thinking about doing the marathon in Natchitoches this year, but really want to do the Head of the Hooch in Atlanta this year. Is that the regatta you are talking about?

Well let's see -

Biking is what I do most often other than skydiving, but that's cause I bike to work, so I'm not sure if that counts as a sport.

I ski in the winter, but lately if I get to go even 2-3 times a year it's a lot.

I used to climb, but my climbing is now limited to the climbing wall in the back yard.

I sail, but sailing isn't really a sport, it's more an excuse to get out on the water, look around and drink beer.

Head of the Hooch is in the Fall... but there is a strong rowing presence in Atlanta... although I haven't been part of it. I always liked the quiet, peacefull mornings that were also painful on sooo many levels... :P

You should visit Texas and go tubing with me sometime. Its a similar sport, especially in Gruene on the Guadalupe.:D

I love 4-wheelin!! I miss it so much (I had a Jeep TJ)... don't have a lot of rocks to crawl over here, but lots of mud to have fun in!! The last 4-wheelin trip I went on was right before Christmas in Tellico in the snow!! It was so cool!! :D

My Honda Accord is now even trail-rated from that whole experience...:P
