skydivermom 0 #1 June 20, 2005 How can you be so excited yet so nervous about something? I really can't wait to begin, but my stomach is in knots and it is a month away. This last weekend I completed two instructional tandems and I still feel like I'm in the clouds. Is there something I can read to become more familiar with the terminology? I want to learn as much as I can. What I think I'm most scared of is doing that first solo jump. I tried to do some turns on the last tandem and I felt like I couldn't get my arms to do what I wanted them to. I'm rather small and not a weight lifter. Does that have anything to do with it?Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
crewkeith 0 #2 June 20, 2005 go to uspa and download the SIM. its free and its all the info you need. size doesnt matter. you will learn the right way to do it in your aff course. congrats and keep with it. skydiving gives perspective. it will change your life. .The skies are no longer safe I'm back
Jeth 0 #3 June 20, 2005 Ya, definitely read the SIM. I also recommend a book called "The Skydivers Handbook", thats a great read with lots of info. Try not to worry too much about the solo jump. At first you will have instructor(s) holding onto you. They will keep you stable. Eventually you will learn how to be stable and control your body in freefall. And let me tell you -- when you figure it out, its a really awesome feeling!! If you're curious about student training, you could read my jump journal. It's the link in my sig. I just got my A a few weeks ago. (I was in AFP, a more comprehensive program than traditional AFF.) Welcome and enjoy! Its gonna change your life!! "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!! skydivermom 0 #5 June 20, 2005 Thanks so much! I have to stretch my jumps out because I'm making only so much money each month for them and I'm driving about 300 miles to do it so I wanted to be doing something to contribute to this new hobby between jumps. I appreciate it.Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
plowdirt 0 #6 June 20, 2005 You'll be fine, a tandem rig is different then a sport rig. You will be flying something more compatable to your size, and so on and so forth. relax, have fun ,and don't forget to smile. I would say this: anything you read, or research on this sight, must be discussed first with your coaches. after the 25 or so jumps and you get the "A" whatever you read research on this sight should be taken with a grain of salt. Don't forget the tequilla. Bluskies soft landings and welcome to the party
skydivermom 0 #7 June 20, 2005 I'm already much more confidant and stronger thanI was before. I think it's partly because I'm doing something just for me and it was completely my decision. I can't wait! Thanks for all the info.Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:

Your instructors can give you way more insight and anything you learn in here you should check with your instructors first. You are getting ready for the time of your life, have fun, be safe and skydive naked!! Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
skydivermom 0 #9 June 20, 2005 Thanks so much! It is nice to be a part of something where everyone seems to be looking out for everyone else. I'm sure the more jumps i complete the less nervous I will be. It's always scary starting something new, especially when it is thousands of feet above sea level! I love a good time as much as anybody else, but I don't do alcohol at all. I'll have to be the designated water drinker I guess.Mrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:

jasonRose 0 #11 June 20, 2005 Quote I love a good time as much as anybody else, but I don't do alcohol at all. I'll have to be the designated water drinker I guess. Drinking while skydiving is a very bad mix in my opinion. Most places ,from what I have seen, will not let people drink until everyone is done jumping and the plane is put away. So water is a good way to go! I cant wait to see your post when you make your first AFF jump. SO Keep us posted and tell your DZ owners to pay the weather bill so you have nothing but blue skies!! Have fun be safe and skydive clothed if you want. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
