His car was later found in a gravel pit on a highway leading to the U.S. border. Despres hitchhiked to the border crossing.

"That chainsaw you've got there looks like it's got some blood on it, why don't you toss that in the trunk before you get in, eh?"

"I'd rather hold on to it."

"Well, I suppose that's alright. Where'd you say you were heading to?"

"Out of the country."

"Going to get some lunch in the states, eh?"

"..."

"...okay, well it's just up the road a bit, I'd be glad to give you a ride."

You think that is bad, check this out!

Arizona Sex Offenders Database

Do a search under any AZ zip code (eg Eloy is 85231) and peruse the mugs on the beauties that come up. Nasty.

Since it's so obvious that all sex offenders and most murderers look f***ing weird (take Michael Jackson for example), why don't they just round'em all up on suspicion of looking like a sex offender in the first place?

Save a lot of hassle. It would also make an interesting study if you could ask people to rate photos based on how much like a sex offender someone looked and match it with their true level of sex offender-ness. I'm sure the % would be HIGH!

It's truly unnerving that people can walk around toting a bloody chainsaw/knife, and apparent blood stains on his clothing without more than a 2 hour detainment..... legally they had to let him go. craziness I tell ya!!!! :S

No why would they stop him? No warrants or any reason too.

I'd be more appauled if they stopped him because 'he didn't look right'.

Jen

They shouldn't have stopped him if he had just a knife or just a sword or just a hatchet or even just a chain saw. But having all of these things including blood on the chain saw and apparently blood on his clothing. (If I read it correctly, when he was found on the highway after being let in the country, which was after the murders, his clothing was stained with blood.) Thats why he shouldn't have been let in. At minimal they should have detained him to test the blood to see if it was human. That would have been perfectly legal based on Reasonable Suspicion could even be articulated as Probable Cause as the way he looks not by the way he dresses or chooses to wear his hair...ect, but what was on the clothing he chooses to wear.

Are you at all familiar with that area of the US? I am because I don't live to far and have family in Prince Edward Island Canada that I visit via the same entry point he used.

People hunt there - he could have simply told them he was hunting.

To get stopped because someone doens't look right - would it have been any different if he was covered in shit? - doesn't warrant arrest. If it did next we'd be hearing about getting arrested because you looked at the cop wrong :S Screw that!

I am very glad, in our season of increased governement involvement, that he did make it through. They had no reason to stop him if there were no warrants for his arrest.

Thankfully he was caught, but at the border was not the place to do that.

So yesterday you started this thread on the premise that I'm creepy looking, and today you say I look good. Ever wonder why us men are confused by women? :S:D

Then ask him a few hunting questions. Maybe something like..."So do you knock the deer out with your brass knuckles before to slay them with your sword?":S
But I am guessing you don't think he should have been asked any questions.

First I said detained not arrested. Second...Doesn't look right?! The guy was in possession of several weapons that included a chain saw with blood on it and had blood on his clothes to match! Third...Nobody said anything about detaining(arrested in your words) because of the way he looks ie; hair cut or choice in clothing. Thats something you brought up.

I agree, but I never said the word arrest. I will check my postings but I am pretty sure I used the word detained. Detain and Arrested are two different things. I'll refer you to Websters Dictionary on that issue.

Your glad he made it through? oooo....kkkkkk....:S...yep I feel so much safer knowing that this guy rolled right into the country not hiding anything. I can't help but wonder what has made it through being hidden.

Two things here. First....I again refer you Websters Dictionary on what Detain and Arrest mean. Second...They had every reason to stop him...HE HAD WEAPONS, WEAPONS WITH BLOOD, AND BLOOD ON HIM!

Yes thankfully he was caught and no the border was not the place to do that without Probable Cause or warrant. But it was the place to detain him. Those people at the border...you know...have the uniforms on. Thats their job. They aren't there just to stand around counting people who come and go...err...well maybe they do and thats why this thread is going...[:/]
