I wouldn't spend more than 60$ on just a cut, though, and I've never spent more than 40$ on one. When I buy shoes (not often) I tend to buy decent stuff. I stopped picking up pretty shoes and I stopped trying to be thrifty because your feet pay for it. I want something well made and comfy, and that is usually between 40 and 75$. I would not spend over 100$ on a purse, no way! I try to keep it around 50$. I've not had too much experience with art galleries, but wouldn't break the bank to attend. The most i've spent on a dress is 120$, it was for a wedding. Usually I shop for my stuff at Old Navy, or sales at dept stores. I've even been known to hit thrift stores. I like a high thread count, and don't want any sheets that aren't 100% cotton (ach, sweat!) I am a very picky sleeper, and I tend to sleep poorly when i'm at a hotel, in a tent, etc. I am a light sleeper, I want it very cold and dark and comfortable. My pillow costed 90$. So sue me! I will spend money eating. I dont' care how much i'm paying for "the next days shit." Some of my best memories involve good food, mmm. I get my hair done for my birthday every year (color, styled). It doesn't grow fast but keep it cut shoulder length because it is thin, Sheets? luv cotton--thread count over 200 for my douvet so feathers don't escape. Clothes? as I work from my own office in my home, my appearance is not importand for my business or customers as I work online. Own clothes that are all comfortable to me, express who I am....colors that express my mood, and a few outfits that make me feel femine, (...re: dresses, skirts, heels.) Favorite time of year is summer so most of my clothes are for summer. Love visiting art galleries but do not own 1 expensive picture. Priorities....roof over my head, yard like a park and natural...like to garden, food to eat, spend time with my family, make 250-300 jumps in the summer. Life is very simple. There are some places I've never been and I will NEVER eat in (Taco Bell?? Kentucky Fried?).... I have no problem going to a nice place to eat and dropping $125 on a meal (but its always fun to 'grill' a hotdog over the stove with a fork at 2 am--drunk of course!). Or dropzone food (I miss the Aviators Hot Wings!!!) High thread count? Otherwise, if they fit and look like they'll last a long time, they can be $20 or $200, because comfortable feet are a must! Uncomfortable shoes, especially dress shoes, can ruin a whole evening. I usually won't buy really cheap clothes, but mainly because i've discovered that a lot of times, the pricier brands last longer and fit better. So, overall, I probably spend about as much as people that buy a lot of cheap clothes, because I have to replace them less often. I usually buy pretty classic styles, so I've got suits and dresses that I've had since high school that look fine and still fit fine...damn...I just realized I graduated 9 years ago. I feel old. Jewelry-wise, I'll spend a lot if it's something i'm planning on keeping for a long time, but if I'm just looking for something for a single evening out, I'll usually just go to Claires or something. I don't really dress up or go out often enough to justify owning a lot of expensive jewelry. I wouldn't have occasion to wear it enough to make the cost worthwhile. Hair-wise, I've spent over $100, but it was to have my stylist dye my hair, and my hair at that time was a couple of inches past my waist, so it took her about 4 hours. Beyond that, I usually spend about $30-$40. Art wise, I like looking. Clownburner and I wandered through a few galleries last week in Kona, but I usually don't buy, mainly because I'm not home often enough to enjoy it. My apartment furniture is mostly ikea, mainly again, because it's cheap and I'm never home long enough to care. Basically, I guess what it comes down to is that i like being outdoors, but I also really appreciate my creature comforts. I've worked on dinosaur digs with no running water (no showers!) for weeks, but when we got back to town, I'll admit to picking the nicest hotel around and ordering room service. While on my feet, those shoes have: walked across a good part of Ireland trudged through ankle deep mud for miles at a dino dig site to find shelter from pouring rain, lightning, and flash floods hiked through most of Yellowstone and a good portion of Glacier NP. worn on my first tandem jump hiked through canyons, natural arches, and native american ruins wandered aimlessly through the French Quarter in New Orleans Walked over an active volcano and a ton of other stuff I can't think of right now. Best damn shoe purchase I ever made, and after all that, with a bit of polish, they look pretty much brand new. Average cost: less than $20 a year. Well, it sounds like you've gotten your money out of them, fine, but most of those things I would have either done barefoot, or in a pair of Nike hiking boots that cost me far less than $200, or the Timberland work boots that cost me $100, twelve years ago. It amazes me that people think that they need high-tech boots to hike. I do it with no footwear at all, and it feels better, doesn't risk blisters, gives me better traction, and doesn't erode the paths I walk either. When I really do need shoes, I wear the least I can get away with. My $150 Doc Marten boots I got 6 years ago? They still get the job done. Haircuts I pay about $15, with tip. For nice clothes, I will definitely spend extra money, as I know that it will fit better and last longer. Ditto with sheets. I have some 500-count cotton sheets and they've lasted for ages with no piling or any other damage from repeated washing/drying. The point is this...
