Thank You Gift for Physical Therapist?

Recommended Posts

So, this past weekend I finally got back in the air -- a year after my second shoulder dislocation and 7 months after my surgery. After spending the better part of the past year in physical therapy, I wanted to get my physical therapist a thank you gift for all her skill, support, ass-kicking, putting up with my whining, and general all-around coolness.

She's totally freaked out by the idea of doing a jump, so I think that's pretty much out of the picture. I thought about getting her tickets to Body Worlds, which she has wanted to see for a long time. However, the museum said that tickets can only be purchased for a specific date and time. Another possibility is membership to the museum it's showing at.

So, do any of you have other suggestions for a fun thank you gift? I'm looking to spend around $50-75.

Thanks! :)

i dated a p.t. for two years and it's something you might not think about right away, but they get sore from their jobs. they are on their feet all day and use their bodies non-stop. trust me she will love it! i would on occasion treat her to an hour with a great soft tissue therapist....probably right in your price range of 75 beans.

Why not write a glowing letter to the PTs boss(es) for their record? Something like that could have some impact on their next raise, career progression, etc. Rather than a one time pat on the back, maybe it could help more long term.

This PT did her job and got paid a fair salary for it. I think of PTs as professionals so 'tipping' activities are kind of odd here and in some cultures (not ours) it could be taken in a negative way. But your gratitude is very understandable.

I don't understand the point of gifting someone who does the job they've chosen, but it's not a big deal. The message or spa thing sounds nice in any case.

She's the manager of the branch that I go to, but I guess that I could write a letter to the regional office.

I've come to see her as a friend in addition to being my physical therapist. Since we saw each other so much, we'd talk about anything and everything, and we'd joke around with each other and give each other shit. It's the most fun I've ever had in physical therapy! :D

yay for you! i am so excited that you got back up!

incidentally, i went and (on a last minute whim) did a tandem this weekend to check how my shoulder did. i missed the sky. no time to get recurrent, since i am leaving next week for 6 weeks, but at least i could do this... i forgot the glory of sitting in the door of the caravan at 13k on a beautiful warm afternoon.

tandeming was horrible. for the first time i had nothing to do. so i did practice touches and some turns to see how my shoulder did and he told me to stop. i couldn't train myself out of what i was supposed to do - nice guy, great dz - i just realized that i know too much to tandem anymore. BUT I LOVE JUMPING OUT OF AIRPLANES and my shoulder did great, and so that was so worth it.

good PTs are key, i know what you mean... i think the museum idea is fabulous. and i would definitely write a letter to whomever is over her - that is always a good idea. i bought one person the skydiver bear with a rig and everything - i found the link on here somewhere - they were just way too cute and an unusual gift idea. (my PT was all into the fact that i was a skydiver, and wanted an artifact of that.)

i am so excited for you, piriya. thanks for encouraging me so much. hope we get to meet one day -

Thanks! B|

I'm glad you got to do a tandem, at least--and it's great that your shoulder held up well! I did a tandem to test out my shoulder before I started my solo retraining, too. It was definitely weird not having my own gear. I kept checking for handles that weren't there! :D

That's odd that your tandem master told you to stop--did you explain your situation to him beforehand? I told my tandem master that I had my A-license, told him all about the shoulder injury and surgery, etc. He pulled his arms and legs into a neutral position so that I could control the flight. I did a few hand/arm "paddle" turns, a leg turn, and I pulled. Then we did a bunch of practice flares together.

I hope we get to meet, and JUMP together one day, too! B| Keep up with those shoulder exercises--which reminds me, I have to go do mine for the day! ;)

i think someone has a crush.

I don't blame you my PT from January was a cutie too.:)

LOL! Well, it may be a crush, but trust me, it's purely platonic. I don't think my husband or her husband would approve of their wives running off with each other. Or maybe they would, who knows?

Why does everybody think I'm a guy?? Oh right, it's because I don't "post like a she." :D

Women can have crushes on other women and still be purely platonic.. but I dont think they wouldn't mind if you two ran off and posted some pictures on dz.com:)

I gave my PT a plant for her office, and a cute card. In the card i wrote my phone number and said whenver she was ready to skydive, i would pay for it. She just needs to give me a call. She's responsible for making me able to walk again. I'd love to share the gift of freefall with her. I really hope she takes me up on the offer.

I was actually talking to the PT that reportsd to me as I read this thread and she agreed with the massage. Constanly assisting individuals with transferring and ambulating definitely makes you sore and who wouldn't love a good massage!!

That is really thoughtful that you are going that far to do something for them, but they definitely did you a lot of good. At my work, food, books, plants and especially letters of thanks and recognition really go a long way!

yep, i explained it all to those guys (it was not at my home dz) and they were more than willing to help. but they didn't know me, and it was a really turbulent day. it was fine. i was in the plane, being focused, and went to touch all my handles and was like, ergh! something is very wrong here! it was funny. the guy in front of me turned around and said, you know too much to be a tandem. i laughed and told them the story (it was a four way team) and they all cheered for me when they went out.

it has made me doubly zealous to do my exercises. :) like a breath of fresh air.

for sure we will jump together someday... :)

Yay, P!!! Congrats on getting back to the sky!!!

I am a teacher, and I love the idea of writing a letter to someone above her in her company....I just got a copy of a letter today...a kid wrote it to her guidance counselor about how great I have been this year....so that is always nice to hear....

And also...who doesn't love a massage??

The best idea so far,IMO, was the letter. Send a copy to her regional office and give her a copy, with a small gift, to keep in case she ever interviews for another job.

Thanks Anne! You'll finally be able to take me for that 182 jump you promised me when we were in Toronto! ;)

I'll write the letter to her supervisor in addition to getting her a massage. I forgot to mention that in my other post--d'oh!
