"A study of 85 infant boys found a correlation between increased exposure to some forms of the chemical phthalate and smaller penis size and incomplete testicular descent.

"It is the first time phthalate has been shown to influence the sexual development of human males..."

I remember hearing or reading about this many many moons ago. Something in certain plastics (probably this phthalate) simulates a sort of estrogen or what the body thinks is estrogen...which in developing males could cause little weeenors. This is not new information, I believe. :/

Talk about the bizarre, I read something awhile back about the treatment for this condition, which is pretty serious--it has major consequences for self-esteem, relationships, pro-creation, etc. The science has evolved to where they can reconstruct Mr. Johnson, with impressive results.

Bad News: unfortunately various phthalate derivatives are used in many consumer products, and the stuff is NOT incorporated in the polymer molecule itself, so it can easily be leached out. The products using it include plastic food and beverage containers.

Good News: fortunately it wasn't in use when I was in the womb. ;)
