Hipwrddude 0 #1 May 26, 2005 I was sittin' around with my finger in my butt and my mind in neutral when the roar of a jetfighter shook my crib. They were flying a few hundred feet above the trees. I got a couple of shots but it's hard--like trying to pick your nose in public--very few good opportunities. I guess they're preparing for the air show this weekend, probably the last as the Willow Grove Naval Air Station is on the hit list for base closures. The Blue Angels... why don't they come up with the Pink Angels, jetfighter chicks! You're always the starter in your own life!

BillyVance 34 #5 May 26, 2005 I used to watch the Blue Angels do their training flights up and down the Alabama peninsula beach every June when my family spent our vacations down there. They flew every Wednesday mornings. Sometimes it was just one or two jets, but quite a few times all 6 of them were together. This was back in the late 70's or early 80's though, when they were still flying the A-6 Intruders, I think? Usually, I'm sitting at the table eating breakfast, when all of a sudden I feel a near-BOOM/roar, and I just know it's the Blue Angels making a near-mach 1 fly-by less than 100 feet off the ground, and run out to watch... As far as I know, they pretty much stopped training over the beach the past 10 years or so... Uh...They never flew Intruders The did use the A-4 Skyhawk about that time though Before that they used the F-4 Phantom.. and before that the F-11 Tiger. I used to spend summers in FL and they would always show up over Jax Beach out of Mayport when I was young

377 22 #8 May 27, 2005 I thought the F 11 Tigers looked the best of all the planes I have seen them fly. They did a show at Moffet NAS in CA in the early 60s with the F 11s. Cool. There was also a local Navy acro group at the show flying Skyraiders, the single seat models. I always hoped the Blues would use F 8 Crusaders after the Tigers, but guess it wasnt as well suited as other types. I have a UHF AM scanner and can hear them during shows. They are obviously under very high G loading at times, the voices sound like strained grunts rather than normal speech during those moments.
TheAnvil 0 #9 May 27, 2005 My college room-mate flies right wing for them. They put on one hell of a show. They don't drink tequila very well though. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

chuckbrown 0 #11 May 27, 2005 I lived in Annapolis when I was a kid & the Angels were always there doing a show. I remember the time I was at recess (in the second grade) and looking up at the underside of an F-4 as it made a low pass directly over the playground. golferbill 0 #13 May 27, 2005 The whole team practices on Tue and Wed just about every week. You can go on Pensacola NAS and watch their practice sessions. After the season is over and they are bringing in new pilots the will use the caostline between Mobile and Pensacola to train. They started in the 40's with Hellcats, then Bearcats, F-11's, F-4's, A-4's, and now F-18's. The museum on NAS has a very good history display on them. jtval 0 #14 May 27, 2005 one of the things I like about being stationed in vegas is that I get to watch the thunderbirds practice ALL THE TIME. I also get to watch some other cool aiurcraft fly/land. the f-22's, marine osprey's are among the list a few days ago I saw my first FORMATION of stealth fighters fly over head. That was pretty cool. up until then I have only seen one at a time fly by. I also got to check out the air power demo: where they blow up real shit for an audience pretty cool stuffMy photos My Videos
flyhi 24 #15 May 27, 2005 QuoteBefore that they used the F-4 Phantom Was in an Airshow in New Orleans where the Blue Angels flew F18's and the Louisianna Air National Guard (the "Coonass Militia") flew F-4's. The Blues were precise, exact, on target, and boring. The Coonass Militia just turned on their afterburners and made a couple of high-speed, high-noise passes. There was so much noise and vibration that everyone at the Airshow was moving around like those little guys in the first electric football games. The announcer said that an F-4 on AB takeoff uses more fuel than it takes a small car to drive across the country. The F-4; aerodynamic proof that with enough thrust, anything can fly.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
