flyingferret 0 #26 May 11, 2005 Yeah, a lot of random opinions here. Ft. Worth gets a bad rap as shit kicking cowtown. It has grown out of that really, not sure if it was true at one time. I would rather live in Ft. Worth than Dallas anyday, more laid back, less ubertrendy. But given the choice I live in Arlington, right in the middle. Disagreeing with one and agree with another, cost of housing/living is low. There is almost anything you want to do in the metroplex, jumping, indoor climbing, art, food, etc. That being said, we think nothing of driving 20-30 minutes to get something like that in a neighboring 'suburb'. 4 within 2hours (depending on where you live): 1 turbine, and 1 non USPA. Add another 2 hours, and you have Aggieland, Spaceland, Waller, San Marcos, etc. You are within 60-90 of Lake Texoma, for any boating and water activities. We have no state income tax. Here are some real figures: http://www.terminalreality.com/dfw/col.html That being said, I don't think the metroplex is the best place ever, for scenery I would rather be in Colorado. But for a lot of people it offers a really great mix of jobs, culture, and sports. Of course other people will probably complain about the Texas attitude. To them I say kindly "Piss off, Mam"-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
Duckwater 0 #27 May 11, 2005 Ft Worth Kicks Ass. I live here.... Good Stuff: 1. VERY inexpensive housing. 2. Bass Hall - (going to see Alains Morrisette on the 30th) 3. Downtown Ft Worth has great bars and TONS of hot chicks - better that Dallas even. 4. Texas Motor Speedway close 5. Rod Tinney lives here Bad Stuff: 1. Traffic on 820 and 35 suck ass 2. Skydive Dallas is 1'30" away 3. The fucking weather has sucked for a year! There is something going on with climate change...there really is.

Duckwater 0 #32 May 11, 2005 It will be better than Atlanta. You will want to move in the North Ft Worth area. I live just off of 820 and Beach, its all pretty new and easy access to the highways. But....I am thinking of transferring to Chicago (work at Corwith)......I REALLY want to live in downtown at some point.....
ChasingBlueSky 0 #33 May 11, 2005 QuoteI've always wanted to be a tornado chaser, so that's ok. btw a tornado hit downtown Ft. Worth only a couple years ago. Did some decent damage to one of the new high rise buildings. Don't tell the people in FW they live in Dallas - it upsets them. I was surprised at how clean FW was. Not sure why, just was. Good night life if you don't mind dodging people that don't know how to drive a truck - and everyone drives trucks. Everyone. A lot of the younger kids that can't drink seem to drive them around the city at night. Also found it very odd how you can be a block off the main area and have it be dead quiet with no one around. The city center is small enough that you can park and walk everywhere and bar/club hop....hope you like country music because I found it hard to find a place the played real music. Outside of FW is either miles of nothing or miles of suburban cities. Best BBQ I have ever had was in FW. I wouldn't live there. Coming from Chicago I was bored after three days._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... flyingferret 0 #36 May 11, 2005 Well, now I will admit I love Chicago. Duckwater I have friends living downtown and it is blast as long as you are close to work. Regarding, the North Ft. Worht statement (although we are jumping ahead a bit based on the preliminary question) it really depends on where you work. NE Fort Worth, and SW Ft Worth are as distant as Irving and Plano or Naperville and Evanston. They are both nice areas with a lot of recent expansion, but they leagues apart in traffic. You would not want to drive from NE to SW in rush hour traffic if you could do anything to avoid it. Downtown Ft. Worth it a marvel. The reason for a lot of this is the Bass family. They own almost all of the land downtown, and of course the incredible Bass Hall is named in honor of them. The Bass City Center (downtown) has their own bike police who can be to any spot in downtown in under two minutes. I suspect it is actually less and they are always kinda wandering around. The result is a clean urban area where you can walk around at 2am with no concerns. Hardly true of Deep Ellum in Dallas. Regarding boredom, maybe you just weren't here lone enough to move from the tourist scene to the local scene. Considering even half the DFW metroplex as your playground there is any kind of food you could want (except Giordanos ), great sushi, musical events of endless variety in half a dozen major venues and countless smaller ones, all major league sports, all minor league sports, a horse track, 6 flags, 2 water parks, multiple lakes, any professional organization you can think of. What in the world did you want to do that you were bored? But then I think mailin said she lived in Denton. That is like living out past Geneva compared to Chicago...until recently the only thing there was UNT. Anyway...this thread has left me more impressed with my choice of residence :)-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

heidihagen 0 #38 May 11, 2005 dal is a lot different than the fort in my opinion. my boyfriend moved there nearly a year ago and i'm still learning to like it. dal night life is a lot better. it's more fun off university in fw. they're just different. i don't know what it is... i think because it takes so freaking long to get anywhere. d&fw are so close i get excited when i finally hit corsicana on the way home (corsicana has a gas station... or 2). i hope ya like driving... a lot of driving. houston has that problem too. to be fair, i haven't given downtown dw much of a chance... and they have a cute dog park called "fort woof" hehei didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay. .:need a container to fit 5'4", 110 lb. cypres ready & able to fit a 170 main (or slightly smaller):.[/ce

AggieDave 6 #42 May 12, 2005 Dude, you're smoking serious crack! 60 minutes won't get you to Whitewright due to traffic and roads, it'll take you close to 2 hours to get to whitewright from just about anywhere in Ft. Worth. Don't forget about SD Cowtown and Eagle Flight skydiving. EF is about 30 minutes from Ft. Worth and Cowtown is a bit closer the other direction. I know the back roads and it still takes me close to 2 hours to go from Ft. Worth to Sherman and Whitewright is further east then Sherman. I guess if you're in a pimped out car like yours and do 100mph and don't hit any traffic at all you could make it to SD Dallas in an hour. As for Ft. Worth, its a great town, very cool, better then Dallas IMO. The people are warmer and the clubs are much more laid back. Nevermind that there's an Uno's in downtown FTW.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

JohnMitchell 16 #48 May 12, 2005 I was born there, in Tarrant County hospital, lived in Arlington, but went to school in Fort Worth. I moved away when I was 14, though, so I can't really tell you about the night life, but the water skiing was great. Snow skiing was better in Utah, though. flyingferret 0 #49 May 12, 2005 Yes you can. Although I don't advise it. My personal record was I30 and Eastchase (right by 820) to my parents IN Sherman in about 70 minutes.
