It was my favorite color as a kid -- I think I associated it with grape flavored candies and grape bubble gum, oh and Dimetapp (the cough syrup) which was purple, and grape-flavored. Ever think about how all of those "grape" flavored things taste nothing like actual grapes?! Anyway, my favorite color is now blue, by a huge margin. But I can see how one could love purple.
