Kris 0 #1 May 8, 2005 *making sure none of the guys are looking at this post* Okay, the coast is clear. Hi, my name is Kris and I like cats. *Hello, Kris!* Right now, I had an older Himalayan, but Kashmir is now with sister as she adores her and she wasn't being at all sociable with my rommate's cats. I've tried everything to get them to get along, and they like her, she can't stand them, so she's off at her new home with my sister So, I'm looking for a new cat, and I really want a Bengal (domestic cats that are bred from Asian Snow Leopards). However, before I shell out several hundred for a cat, are there any other breeds that are like them in temperment? In short, Bengals are known to love the water, to play fetch, like to take walks on a leash, and are very outgoing. If I can find that in another breed, I can live without the Bengal look, and I would prefer to save something from a shelter or pound. I don't want a cat that's extremely independant, skittish, or anti-social. Any ideas?Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Why, yes, I do happen to love the pussies. And, if you dye him purple, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to "borrow" your cat and hold it for ransom. Help me!* But to be honest, each cat or any animal is going to have its own personality above and beyond its "traits". I would say go to a local shelter...and play with the kittens there, ask the staff and tell them what you are looking for as they might just have a cat that fit that profile. I have seen many many highly playful cats while working at the humane society. Hell my neighbor right now has a cat I wanna steal. They used to let it run the neighborhood and it would sit on my grill on my patio and taunt Dakota at the window. Funniest damn thing I have seen. The cat is just beautiful too . But that is going to be the best bet...play with them and see what they do, you get that option at most humane societys She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

Thats cool, thats gives me time to save 1200.00 for a kitten!

Daizey 0 #16 May 8, 2005 Kris, no, there isn't any cat like a bengal in looks or temperment. I absolutely love those cats. My uncle has a one and it is gorgeous-absolutely stunning-and sooo soft! Very sweet, but a little timid (he's still new so i think it'll go away with time.) Overall he's an amazing cat with a distinct personality-and hes not huge. Hes a year now and still the size of his other domestic cats-all of whom he gets along with really well. This same uncle is a vet who's very knowledgeable about different breeds of cats, dogs, etc. I pass his email along to you and he can help ya out by giving you specific breeds that would suit what you're looking for. I do know that is possible to rescue bengals. They'll still cost ya, but they are considerably less. Just make sure they are legal to have in your state as I know they are illegal still in a few states. *daizey*
MNM604 0 #17 May 9, 2005 I think that going to a shelter is the best idea. I work at a animal shelter and see to many kitty cats put to sleep. Why spend the money if there are so many cats that need a home???
ham 0 #18 May 9, 2005 I have always wanted a Bengal, but I could never spend that kind of money on a cat. From my experience ( I have had SO many cats and dogs and room mates with lots of cats ) The best ones are strays or come from the shelter. Of course it all depends on how you handle them as kittens. mailin 0 #25 May 9, 2005 Quote especially when they forget to retract their claws. LOL! Thats why both hubby and I sleep in body armor (aka 'under the covers'). One hot night we didn't turn on the AC and instead just slept on top of the blankets - she got both of us at differnt points durring the night. Its like a hundred little needles. You wake up real quick, but can't get too mad at her - she's too cute when she does it JenArianna Frances
