Psycho packing anyone?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know any good or bad things about psycho packing? Any tips? I find it really easy to deflate it and bag it just by rolling it.
I've been playing with it at home but haven't jumped it yet because of the weather. it also makes sense to roll the sells opposite way from each other and leaving the center cell unrolled but would it cause a hard opening?

I psycho pack often. I usually just tuck 4 cells from each side (unrolled) in towards the center cell, leaving the center cell exposed. I tuck the nose just for symmetry I never roll the nose cells.

certainly have never pulled or rolled them away from the center. I have never seen it done that way before. i would just leave them hang there and do nothing then pull them to the outside of the pack job.

after psycho packing don't forget to take out the 180degree twist after bagging it, preferably in the correct direction or you will end up with line twist.

I get softer/longer openings from psycho packing my canopy.

1:04 for the Psycho was rather fast.

I'm not saying which is best (I do like the video that you posted tho and will try it).

First of all that is not a new canopy..... you can pack a 600-800 jumps beauty fast with any method.

Have you tried to roll a new canopy? Its almost as much fun as try to fold it.

search anyone?

Ya know, I think everything has been covered here at least once. If no one posted because they found everything they were looking for by searching there wouldn't be much point in having a forum right. Sorry I fucking hate replies like that.

Search is broken.... :P

Yeap, I tried to roll my new Katana 150.... you're right,, it didn't so much look like a sausage as a cow pat.... never really stood much chance going in the bag like that..... This is when packers are most definitely your best friends.

Been there, done that. I got a new Pilot. It felt like a plastic bag coated with silicone. No packers here. I had no other choice if I wanted to jump it than learn and pack it. Psycho packing was out of question.

When the search function gets fixed there is a lot of debate on it, I'm a big fan of it. It's not just easier to bag, it slows the openings at least a little. My Cobalt was pro-packed 3 times, two out of the three it broke something from the opening shock, the first broken steering line and my helmet(riser strike). It can also be a faster pack job because you may not have to roll the nose or any of the other special tricks to slow the opening.
The down side is that there may not be anyone at your dz doing it, so you may not be able to get help if you have questions. It can damage your canopy if you don't add the bridle extension. People are going to say all kinds of bad things about it because they tried it and had a bad opening, once.

once the canopy is on the ground, the person folds the sides into the middle. what is the benefit to doing this as opposed to rolling it underneath?

Check my video, having a nice roll on the tail keep the packjob intact after the first fold.

If you roll it underneath it has a tendency to open from the bottom middle on the first fold....

I roll the tail up when im doing the pack, when i lay it down i proceed to fold it underneath as opposed to folding it on top as seen in the video. ive never had a problem with any of the folds coming open before placing it in the bag but i can see how it can happen. Is there any difference in the way the canopy opens or is this just an easier way of putting the canopy neatly into the bag?

Half is getting into the bag, the rest is religion.

For the speed of the opening, there is a sophisticated device installed on your canopy in order to control the speed of opening....;)
