PhreeZone 20 #1 May 6, 2005 I'm finally getting into the 21st century and I'm looking at picking up some sort of DVR device. My cable company offers one for 12.95 a month that has simple things like scheduling, storage, plus it gives me music and a few HD tv channels too. I've also been looking at a TiVO but with the cost of a box being $200 plus the monthly service at 12.95 or $299 for lifetime service its hard for me to go for that option... unless the service and the benifits to a TiVO really outweigh the cable companies DVR. Anyone have any experience with DVR's and TiVO and can tell me if its worth the extra $ to go for a TiVO over the cable companies DVR?Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

hisgoofyness 0 #3 May 6, 2005 Not sure about your area, but for me the only real option is the DVR from Comcast. The TIVO is not HDTV compatible. I watch a lot of HD programs. Therefore, I will be getting the DVR through Comcast. Plus, you don't have to buy the box, and the monthly rate is the same... Hope that helps... Goudha is for Buddha, and that's good enough for me! craichead 0 #4 May 6, 2005 Yah, same with me and Andy re: Comcast DVR. Weren't there rumors of TiVo partnering with Comcast at one point? Or have those talks gone out the door? _Pm__ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

I mean, wouldn't it be funt o have Google Maps on your TV? All your pictures? Play your MP3 collection? If you watch, you can get a 80 hour one for $100, or sometimes even free (watch Circuit City) They paid me to take mine it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
Spatula 0 #6 May 6, 2005 I have DVR/HD from Cox and love it....4.95 a month more than digital which I had...that's it.....50 hours on the DVR/HD free....can't beat it....waste of money for TIVO, if DVR is available in your area.

livendive 8 #8 May 6, 2005 I've got a Motorola hi-def DVR from Charter, I think I pay an extra $5/month for it. It does everything I want it to do except record on-demand programming. Paige 0 #9 May 6, 2005 I have dvr for $6.99 a month. You don't get to keep the box (can be a negative if you move) but it ends up being waaaaaay cheaper. I'm sure the cable company would let you keep the same box if you are moving within their service area. They wanna keep you happy and with your shows, i'd hope.Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
