a friend of mine was in a massive sand storm in iraq last week, he's a mechanic in the army workingon helicopters, he relised the hanger that a couple of them were in was coming down and pushed out two helicoters to saftey as soon as he got the last out the roof fell into the hanger......... pretty stoopid on his part as he could of goten seriously hurt, but he didn't and saved an apache and a black hawk.....

No, it wasn't awsome so much as sucked much. Hit here right at sunset so it was just a huge black mass that descended upon us. Next to nothing for visibility and dust chokes everything off. Just find some cover and wait till it's over.

No doubt! I had a fairly early mission the next morning too. The guys had washed the trucks up only to have them COVERED in dirt again by that damn storm. We were out there with rags wiping them down by hand. Can't have Senators and such getting in NASTY vehicles.

How much paint did it strip off the HVMW's? I've seen a sandstorm take it down to primer before... sure wasn't envying the motor pool guys that had to repaint it!

Haven't seen a sandstorm that bad yet. I don't think we get them quite as bad as farther south. Up here.........you get some good wind and a few drops of rain. Just enough to make the dirt stick. Some decent lightning too. The bad part........I heard some clown actually flying a Blackhawk in that storm. I hope he had a good excuse like it was a Medivac bird.
