Baksteen 84 #2 January 6, 2009 Don't worry about it Packing is one of the biggest early hurdles a student encounters in the beginning of their career. But what did you encounter that makes you post this? How did you feel about packing while you were still on student gear? When I was packing student canopies, I could finish within ten minutes and confidently jump my own packjob. When my brand new canopy came in, it felt as if I had never packed before in my life.. Do you jump in the winter? Practice packing a lot when the weather is bad. There is absolutely no shame in pulling the parachute open again if you are doubting the quality of your packjob. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
darren71 0 #3 January 6, 2009 He you're from Holland... so we can talk dutch..??? For the forum lets not... When i was a student i simply trusted the packers at the dropzone(texel) now i have to trust my own packing....I am going to sevilla 24 januari.... in the weekends they jump at lelystad and Teuge....in the winter
theonlyski 8 #4 January 6, 2009 so far ive jumped about 20 of my own packs, while it used to worry me every time, you start building confidence in your packing and you start getting better at it... im not saying that im an expert packer or anything, but im confident in my packing abilities on the canopies that i have jumped/packed i found the PD packing video around here somewhere... its like 45 mins long and very in depth on packing and what makes it easier... let me see if i can find a link ahh... here we go Clicky..."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
TerminatorSRT4 0 #5 January 7, 2009 The first couple pack jobs I did on my own I felt like punching kittens. Now I've settled down and learned a few things and can get everything done in about 20 minutes while working smoothly and not rushing. Of course that'll all change since I ordered a new canopy for my first rig and I'll probably want to start punching kittens again...but oh well But don't be too intimated by packing, you'll get better, just take your time and ask LOTS of questions to the other people around you packing. erdnarob 1 #6 January 8, 2009 Congratulations but keep on being alert and stick with the basics : lines at the center, brakes carefully done, collapsible pilot chute cocked, bridle routing OK, slider OK...etcLearn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all. TerminatorSRT4 0 #7 January 8, 2009 another thing that I learned recently after reading up on the forums is to utilize every body part you can to make the job easier it looks like I'm a contortionist with some of the positions I get into while packing, but learning to use your whole body while packing has made my life much better
