GLIDEANGLE 1 #26 January 10, 2009 Quote Packing parachutes is a good idea, I do remember talking to a few packers down at Skydive AZ, granted that is the world's largest DZ and they have a constant flow of skydivers, those guys charged between 6 to 8 bucks a rig, at 3 or so rigs an hour...not going to get rich off of packing parachutes but it sure can't hurt! I think you underestimate how many rigs a good packer can pack in an hour. It may take you or me 20 minutes per rig.... but it sure doesn't take my packer that long. Which is why I have never missed a load when she packs for me, no matter how "buried in nylon" she is. (Thank you Laura ) Don't forget than the best ones often get a tip too.The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
koppel 4 #27 January 10, 2009 QuoteTip. Compress the pilot chute with a molar strap before running the pull up cords through the rig. Have it cinched part way down before removing it. I have heard this before but every time I have tried I find that the base of the spring moves and then it is hard to hide the collar of the cap. My personal favourite for this part of the pack is to take a kitchen chair and turn it on its side. Place the rig on it and hold the cap down with one hand as I reach under the rig and remove the bodkins followed by the ghost loops. takes a bit of practice to get the pins in with one hand but its very do-able. Then I can cinch down the cap all the while holding it in place.I like my canopy... ...it lets me down.
