Thank you to Airtec, Vigil and Alti-2 - Re: Skydive Everest

Recommended Posts

This "Thank you!" is probably about a month late, but hopefully the explanation will make sense.

Background:
When I was leaving India on a connecting overnight flight back to the US from Nepal, I began writing what would become the article that Parachutist published in it's December 2008 issue on Skydive Everest. My first draft was a novel that ended up just over 2500 words. (we were gone almost a month, lots to write about...lol). I had to trim and retrim the article to meet the size guidelines for Parachutist, and in the end I was able to squeeze it down to 1676 words.

With all that said, when the article was published, Airtec, Vigil and Alti-2 were not mentioned in the gear section. It was a completely unintentional omission.

I have had so many versions of that article running through my head since I wrote it that I didn't even realize it until the most recent issue of Parachutist (January 2009) that had an ad on the back page about the event.

To be fair to all involved that donated their equipment, I just wanted to mention that in addition to Vigil providing their Military Vigils for the event that Airtec also provided Military Tandem Cypres Units for our Dual Tandem Systems.

Alti-2 also provided their military MA-10 altimeters for the event. (As a test, we put our Neptune's on some of the tandem passengers, you can see one on the passenger on the December cover picture) and I am happy to report that my civilian Neptune was as fully accurate on the way up to 29,500ft as it was on the way down.)

All three companies, Airtec, Vigil and Alti-2 all deserve a public endorsement of thanks from the Skydive Everest Team.

To be fair to Vigil and the January ad, they had no way of knowing that Airtec had sent Cypres units for the tandems as every manufacturer, including Strong Enterprises, were contacted independently by the Everest event organizers.

So that's the story on that. Both Airtec and Vigil did a very gracious thing by providing Skydive Everest their AAD units. The entire team of Skydive Everest is thankful to them both. Same goes for the MA-10s from Alti-2.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me at tnoonan@strongparachutes.com or call the factory 407-859-9317.
