pilotdave 0 #27 April 27, 2005 More than that. The world record (for most passengers in a plane) right now is about 1200 when El Al flew refugees from ethiopia to israel in a 747. Looked it up on google... it was a 747-200C combi converted to passenger configuration with 760 seats. They folded down the armrests to fit 1200. Typical Cruise speed: M 0.85 (ok, I'm an engineer and I don't know this airspeed unit... ) a little help please? adamUK 3 #29 April 27, 2005 Yeah, I heard that despite all this wrangling over Airbus and Boeing, there's several billion dollars worth of transatlantic trade to supply parts for both compaines. There's defininely a lot of EU made bits that appear in Boeing's fleet and vice-versa.

livendive 8 #33 April 27, 2005 I'm probably behind the curve on this one, but from the CNN article: QuoteRosay, flight captain Claude Lelaie and their four fellow crew members wore parachutes for the flight in accordance with Airbus policy, spokeswoman Barbara Kracht told The Associated Press. A handrail leads from the cockpit to an escape door that can be jettisoned if the pilots lose control of the plane. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" sundevil777 102 #36 April 27, 2005 QuoteA handrail leads from the cockpit to an escape door that can be jettisoned if the pilots lose control of the plane. The first Boeing 777 had a door that can be blown off, and a deflector that could fold out to help you get away and down before the airstream took you. On the very first 777 flight, they started doing tests right away, and this included an intentional shut down of one of the engines (2 engines on the 777). I don't know if that is unusual, but it surprised many at the time. The 777 also had about 40 kegs and a lot of piping to allow water to be transferred for easy inflight weight/balance adjustments. Maybe one of them is really a beer keg? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

sundevil777 102 #44 April 28, 2005 QuoteBoing is all pissed cause Airbus is working on a platform that is 20 years more advanced... The 787 is quite advanced, and Airbus can't get their competitor to it, the A350 to get enough interest from airlines. It will be very interesting to see if the A380 is a financial winner. I think it will not be nearly the flop of the Concorde, but not at all a big winner. Scrapping their supersonic airliner was one of the best decisions Boeing ever made.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. bob.dino 1 #46 April 28, 2005 The A380 and the 787 serve very different markets, and I think they'll both do very well. On routes like LON->JFK, SYD->LAX, LAX->NRI, and LON->SYD the A380 will come into its own. The 787 will work really well for the slightly smaller cities. That is, of course, assuming there isn't a trade war due to state subsidies to both airlines (Airbus=cheap loans; Boeing=tax credits & military orders). mr2mk1g 10 #48 April 28, 2005 Concorde stopped making money because people didn't care so much about luxury and speed as they did about getting there fore cheap. That's what the A380's going to do best - getting there cheap. I think that the same force is at work in both events. The A350's behind because they quit working on it to get the A380 up and running. Maybe that was an error as they might have ended up handing the smaller field market to Beoing. Maybe they won't care if they start making megabucks off the A380.
