ccowden 0 #1 April 27, 2005 For those who know Chicago traffic and travel times, how long will it take me to get from Union Station to Skydive Chicago leaving the station around 10am on a Friday morning. And how long should I allow to get back if my train leaves Union Station at 7:55pm on a Sunday?
eeneR 3 #2 April 27, 2005 10am friday isnt too bad...im not so sure about Sun night, I would think you would be ok hitting traffic going the other way...that is about the time everyone goes home sunday night. But I could be wrong. Vallerina 2 #3 April 27, 2005 Ooh! Ooh! When are you coming up??? I worked right across from Union Station, and it took me about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs to get to SDC (more like 1 1/2, but if there's an accident or anything....) whenever I drove straight from there. It should be about the same on a Sunday, although there have been random freakish incidents that make traffic evil. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
ccowden 0 #4 April 27, 2005 Any idea about actual travel times? If you work right there, you wanna pick me up?
eeneR 3 #5 April 27, 2005 Haha oops i forgot the to add the times... Val got it covered Traffic out of downtown chicago can go to hell quick if there is a wreck. tsisson 0 #7 April 27, 2005 I lived downtown for 7 years...Union Station to Skydive Chicago is almost 90 miles door to door... You are looking at approx. 2 hours, maybe 2 1/4 hours to get out there. Traffic won't be too crazy getting out of the loop at 10:00am... I'd estimate about the same timeframe on the way back in...maybe slightly longer as you may run into some weekend return traffic. On your way out, look to see if there is any construction going on on the 55 or on 80 and add an hour if there is for the return trip.

ccowden 0 #10 April 27, 2005 Well, just tell your boss that your cousin is coming in from out of town and needs to be picked up! You can play hooky and we can go to the dz!
JustaBill 0 #11 April 27, 2005 what train are you bringing in? Seeing that your from New York if you are bringing Amtrak 29 or 49 they usually run late Us freight guys tend to get in the way------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
ccowden 0 #12 April 27, 2005 I don't know. It's the Lakeshore Limited.
JustaBill 0 #13 April 27, 2005 yeah that's one of them....I can't remember which either. You'll go right through my town. Elkhart Indiana. If you sit on the left side of the train you'll see the big train yard I work out of ------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
tigra 0 #14 April 27, 2005 Are you going to have a car or ride waiting for you? I'd give myself 2 hours each way just to be safe, plus dealing with downtown traffic just to get on the expressway can be a bi*ch! Sunday night shouldn't be a problem at all BUT I'd still give myself at least 2 hours.

I wish it were that easy... course if I would play hooky I wouldnt be downtown Unfortuanly though until I know if I need surgery on my shoulder, I have no clue what my plans are the next few weeks. I will know on monday. I will see however if I know anyone headed to the DZ on Friday early, and see if we cant find you a ride She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

Buried 0 #17 April 27, 2005 their estimates are generally about right.. not exactly sure from union tho. I'm further north 3800N, and it takes me from the moment I leave my door to the DZ generally 1:15 w/o traffic. (86miles) although you are going the other direction in the morning it would be safe to say 1:45-2h. come back I'd say allow for 2 hours back. So leave ~5-5:30 latest. There isn't any sigificant construction on 55 or 80. just to show you an extreme ..I've spent 4-5 hours coming back one time where there was constuction/accident on 55 before. 10 miles in 2-2.5hours.. in a manual Where is my fizzy-lifting drink? DrunkMonkey 0 #18 April 27, 2005 Before he passed away, didn't Roger try to get Metra to stop near SDC? What is the status on that-did anyone pick that up and run w/it?
skymedic 0 #19 April 27, 2005 Everytime i have taken a train into chicago union station i have always been at least 2-3 sometimes longer late....so unless it's metra...which is almost never late...don't expect to be leaving right about that time...and on a friday morning you'll be ok going out...it's the "If your late part" is tricky. cause into even early afternoon it'll take ya a while..
