Anybody work in construction?

Recommended Posts

I have to write a proposal for my technical writing class, and was assigned the task of writing one for a back yard deck...
... with a $2500 budget...:o

wich means it'll have to be level with the ground :D

Anybody have rough estimates on wood pricing? Or a place where I could get a list of things that a deck should be made of?

a rough list from my (not so) helpful father:

Nails
Frame materials - $10 per piece of wood
2 x 8 for framing
1 x 4

~$300 for decking??

Rails
Stairs
Labor $25/hr – 32 man hours?

TIA!

Jen, HERE is a way to estimate for a 12X12 deck with lumber prices in my area.Use 78148 as the zip code ( i doubt they have a McCoys in RI;) )It doesn't give you a detailed lumber takeoff, but it should get you close.:)

It all depends on the size of the deck.

I'd go to a big box lumber yard which will have the Sunset Books guide to decks. They have lots of pictures, and you can get a material list and the prices for the materials while you are there. If you hire it out, labor cost will run 30%-50% of the total cost, depending on how complicated it is.

:$:$ Anytime
If you need a detailed list, they have them in the store, i think, there is one less than two miles from my office and i could get it and fax it to you or something if you need it. I don't have a scanner or i would send it to you that way.:D
Let me know if you need anymore stuff.

I love that! But really, can you get a deck level with the ground for 2500? Or would you really want it level with the ground... see, I live on a hill...
:P:D
good luck, seems you have what you need!
