dtpilot 0 #1 April 15, 2005 Found out yesterday that the army has said you someone will jump from 34 feet they will jump from any height. Their study comes from airborne school. They have a their highest platform at 34 ft. For every jumper that jumped from that tower they had a jump from a plane. But for the ones who only did the low practive jumps just a small percentage would actually get out of a real plane. Why do you think this is? "Believe me! wartload 0 #2 April 15, 2005 I'd like to see the citation for that info. I know lots of folks (including me) who don't even want to be on the top rung of a step ladder without a safety harness, but who eagerly left the plane on their first jump and love flying aerobatics. Buried 0 #3 April 15, 2005 interesting but is very different. When they are jumping from the platform are they harnessed, jumping into water, sliding down a zip line? what? Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
dtpilot 0 #4 April 15, 2005 Looking for the website that I discovered this info on but here is a link to tell you about the jump school, http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/l/bljumpschool.htm Trust me, some of these guys look really scared on there first jump. My C-130 unit is one unit currently being used as their jump plane. Just got back from there 2 weeks ago "Believe me! pincheck 0 #5 April 15, 2005 Perhaps its just the dumb ones that jump from 34ft. you wouldn't catch me going from that height without some support. Will get out the plane at any height but thats usually because either i have cramp from the long ride up or someone has dropped one in the plane in which case everyone including the pilot dives for the door. wartload 0 #6 April 15, 2005 Interesting article, especially since it mentions Navy guys who are trained at Benning. There have even been a couple of submariners through that program in past years.
