DrunkMonkey 0 #1 April 5, 2005 I detailed the story of slicing my hand open with a grinder two weeks ago. Got 6 stitches. Got the bill yesterday. $972! WTF were the stitches made of? Some endangered Spotted Owl sinew? $700 cover charge just to go to the ER. Unreal. BTW, thank you all. John Q Taxpayer covered it all. Gotta love TriCare. BillyVance 34 #2 April 5, 2005 I had something similar, just for a scratch in my palm from a rusty nail when I was helping the local waterski club rebuild their ski jump ramp, about 12 years ago. Tetanus shot and other ER charges came out to roughly $850... Fucking bastards! On top of that, I spent most of the 5 fucking hours just waiting! foxyroxtail 0 #4 April 5, 2005 $1400 ER visit. 1 bag of fluids, 1 shot of dilaudid. That's it - nothing else. Thank God for the $50 co-pay. ________________________________________
sum1mom 0 #5 April 5, 2005 I know, I know... My doc tried to send me to the ER yesterday, and I refused because of the pay-by-the-minute structure (it seems), plus suffering a 2 - 3 hour wait in the ER pisses the hell out of me.
idlewild70 0 #6 April 5, 2005 when i dislocated my shoulder, i went to the hospital. the doctors used two bedsheets to relocate it. they tied the sheets around themselves, then around me and pulled in opposite directions. when i got my bill, i had not only 2000+ for the hospital visit, but a strange $65.00 charge. i called the hospital and found out they charged me for the sheets. unbelievable.-Fish Blue skies, Soft landings
kbordson 8 #7 April 5, 2005 Down in Peru, one of the other docs got a bit of a bug and was working hard on dehydrating himself. I went to the local pharmacy, got a bag of IV fluid, IV tubing, IV start set, some reglan (no zofran, phenergan or compazine at that pharmacy).... and total - about 20 sole (about $8). Now granted, I had to know what to get, and I had to start the IV myself.... but still. I was amazed at how little it actually cost!!!
scottbre 0 #8 April 5, 2005 If you had an ER visit for under $1000, consider yourself lucky. But did you know that you can negotiate hospital bills down a considerable amount? "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project
DanDruff 0 #9 April 5, 2005 Last month I waited 4 1/2 hours in the ER. My dad finally called a hospital 20 mins down the road and they said I could walk right in. The price for waiting 4 1/2 with no services renderd $270. The price for cat scan and stitches at hospital #2, $3000. We eventually got the $270 bill droped. And they even gave us a break at the 2nd hospital and it came out to ONLY be $1700 bucks. I made a decision not to get hurt anymore after that.
loflyer 0 #10 April 5, 2005 A friend of mine, who injured himself a couple weeks ago, has no insurance & is still in the hopsital... He said he was going to sell his gear to help pay the medical bills, I told him not to bother, the money he would get for the rig would not even pay the room charge for one day at the hospital.. I'm sure his bills are at about $60 - $70,000 about now! I wish people who skydive, would think how important it is to have medical insurance, even if you have a high deductible.. It would of been better to have to dish out $2,000 instead of $70,000!
lawrocket 3 #11 April 5, 2005 Your friend will likely never get that paid off. So, the hospitals have to recover the costs from somewhere. Hence, $1,200.00 for a 2 minute visit and a shot in the butt. My wife is hotter than your wife.
