Darius11 12 #1 April 1, 2005 Has anyone bought a laptop from E-bay? I want to get one but there is no way I am buying a new one for all that $$$. I was looking on E-bay and they have some really good deals. I have never bought any thing from E-bay so are the deals to good to be true? Will I just get screwed and lose the 500-700$ bucks I want to spend.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
AndyMan 7 #2 April 1, 2005 I had a friend buy a laptop on ebay. He was defrauded, never got the laptop or his money back. I'd be very hesitant to ever buy anything on ebay unless it was so cheap that loosing all your money wouldn't hurt. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. freakshow 0 #4 April 1, 2005 I used to use ebay a lot for both buying and selling. I got screwed only one time but that was because of my own stupidity used, a money wire against my better judgement. If you do spend the money be smart and protect yourself use services like paypal that protect you against fraud. But I would and still do on occasion use ebay. B.L. sdctlc 0 #5 April 1, 2005 Bought a laptop off E-bay one time and it was no problem at all. I just have to say that you need to go with the feedback. Try to go only with people with very high feedback. If you looking at a seller that sells a loit and has a few bad FB's that may be OK but you have to look. The more you sell the more you will find that somebody will be unhappy... It is a good guage though to get an idea about the quality of the seller. I dont do a lot but have done close to 200 transaction on E-bay (over 5-6 years) and have only really gotten burned once and it was partialy my fault. Lesson learned for $100 bt other then that I have been nothing but pleased with what I have done. My daughter is using the labtop now and it is running fine..... Good luck. WFFC 1 #6 April 1, 2005 try ubid.com. Most of their stuff is refurbed, some is new. I've only got one machine that I didn't get there and never had an issue. (Edit to add: I've obtained 7 machines from UBid.)----- ~~~Michael

wmw999 2,452 #8 April 2, 2005 I bought the laptop I'm using right now on ebay a couple of years ago. Definitely go with feedback, and feedback doesn't count if the guy normally sells dogs (for instance), and has just decided to branch out into computers. Read ALL the fine print (I missed the part about no Windows CD -- the print was there, and it was exceedingly small), and it came a little late, but, well, I"m still using it 2 years later, so it's definitely not all bad. tkhayes 348 #9 April 2, 2005 Dell has a 17" laptop right now for under $1000, and a 12" notebook for less than $800. beware stuff on Ebay unless it is new, especially laptops and that the company has a telephone number and you can contact them directly. Check fdbk ratings as well. Big ticket items on ebay just mean you need to be more careful. Even bidding on something high priced usually means you will get solicited by crooks that have "the same thing you wnted" for half the price. They take your money and run. That said - there's lots and lots of scam artists out there. As long as it doesn't look too good to be true, and you can pay by paypal using your CC - no reason not to buy - chragebacks based on the fact that you never got your product get awarded to the buyer 100% of the time. and you got way over the 30 days that paypal gives ya. PM me if you want more details, I deal with this every day ( not chargebacks, but ebay/paypal ) peace.
