marcantonio152 0 #1 February 25, 2009 So, I bought an Altimaster II from DZ.COM, but it has a crappy mounting system. I personally prefer the hand mount, so I'd like to purchase a new hand mount for it. Does anyone have a link to somewhere I can buy a new hand mount? All I can find are wrist mounting kits and chest mounting kits... what I purchased came with the wrist mounting kit installed, but two crappy pieces of velcro that aren't worth using. I've been searching for almost two minutes! (On a serious note, none of the twelve online stores have these for sale, and Alti-2 doesn't list them in parts they stock)I'm now required to quit skydiving by the US Navy
pilotdave 0 #2 February 25, 2009 I doubt there's a handmount for it. Altimaster IIs are a bit big for hand mounting. If you want a hand mounted alti, sell it and buy an altimaster galaxy. Dave
councilman24 37 #3 February 25, 2009 I've never seen an advertised 'hand mount' for an altimaster II. And I've never seen anyone try to wear it on their hand. Wrist and chest are it. Too big for a hand mount. Hand mount came out with Altimaster III. Either put it on your wrist or chest (I still have mine from 1980 on a chest mount that I wear everyjump) or sell it and get what you really want. FWIW I think you have the best altimeter available. marcantonio152 0 #4 February 25, 2009 Yeah, I figured that would be about it. I can deal with the wrist mount. Perhaps when I have more money I'll sell it and buy a better one. The galaxies are pretty sweet. Thanks guys.I'm now required to quit skydiving by the US Navy
pchapman 279 #5 February 25, 2009 For many years I've used 2 elastic straps on my good old SSE Altimaster II. One strap between the mount holes at the top corners, one between those at the bottom corners. The straps are from a sewing store. Holes can be drilled out more if one wants to thread a bigger strap. With the elastic straps the alti can be put on very quickly; no fiddling with trying to thread a strap through a narrow plastic slot like typical hand mount small altis. Down side is replacing the elastic every year or two, and the alti isn't as snug on one's hand as a normal Alti III mount. Round cross section bungees work too and are more durable but aren't as comfortable. That's the way I see it done for all the student altimeters. Interestingly enough, Cal City used to use Altimaster II's with hand mounts for their students. I remember clearly how ridiculously big they looked on my hand. Of course, no idea where they got them...perhaps it was just a pet peeve of the master rigger that he decided to take care of it some point....Signatures are the new black. VideoFly 0 #8 February 28, 2009 I keep one on my chest and one on my wrist with a wrist mount from Paragear. I like the wrist mount because it’s out of my way when working with cameras and it allows me to take my gloves off and put them on without removing the altimeter.
