MY PROMISE TO SKYDIVERS

Recommended Posts

If I ever have a malfunction and it's caught on tape I will NEVER sell it to Real TV. Just watched Scott Sanders malfunction on Real TV and even though he saved his own life, the way REAl Tv makes that and other incidents look like "we" as a sport are out of control is disturbing. Just my 2 cents :)

Feel free not to send em your malfunctions, but please send them the good stuff! Every once in a while they show videos of skydiving when absolutely nothing goes wrong. So many people probably have videos of themselves doing really fun stuff. Hoop jumps, raft dives, interesting exits, all that stuff. Thats the kinds of videos we should be sending to real tv. You wouldnt have to feel guilty when they treat you real nice too.

Just seen this on RealityTV a sattelite channel on UK Sky.

Cant help wondering why he spent so long trying to cut away his main when all he had to do was roll over and dump his reserve.

Unless I am missing something, he said that his pilot chute had deployed and wrapped around his arm. He said nothing about the main deploying and judging by the attitude of his body on the video I would say it hadnt.

Cutting away the main which was still in the container would have had no effect on the pilot chute. He was below 2k when he cutaway that is a lot of time he wasted.

Does anyone know Scott? or does he post here?

Wow, you dug up an old thread:S Yes, i know Scott, He and his wife are on a four way team at my dz. His main did partially deploy and his pilot chute /bridle was wrapped around his arm causing a violent spin. He couldn't move his arm to cut away all the way. If you watch the video, you can tell he worked his ASS off to save himself. Real TV is to blame for the sensationalism, not Scott.

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Scott got enough money to get a complete system out of it. Im not necessarily dogging Scott he is a good person.

When it aired a few years ago I asked him why he did it and he said for the rig...

I have a tape from 1993 when I busted myself up and have never turned it in. Even when I needed money.

Its funny, the other day I saw the Volvo commercial where it says that people can do amazing things when they are able to trust their equipment. It shows a Skysurfer and cameraman doing their thing..When they deploy the canopies are in the shape of the car.

Then it refers to the car.

I thought excellent, thats the kind of advertisement we need.
Which takes to me to thought of how many people have "sold" out the sport for money. It has been going on since skydiving started. what a shame. It hurts the sport every time someone sells out. In my opinion.

It then lead me to think the same thing happens when DZ's bad mouth each other to potential jumpers. That used to be a real problem 10 or more years ago, i dont think it is as bad as it was...but then here comes Skyride....

Why cant we just get along and keep our sport appearing safe rather than selling out?

Love it or Leave it.
