What are you afraid of?

Recommended Posts

Getting old doesn't scare me particularly. A lot of it is about overall fitness and activity. Getting inflexible mentally scares me.

My dad's 87; he has a new girlfriend and they're all over each other. He walks a couple of miles a day (slowly, I'll admit), goes to exercise class, and goes dancing at least once a week.

His younger brother is 85; he, too, can do most of what he wants (although right now he's getting over some back trouble). Dad's sister in law, also 85 or so, still plays tennis a couple of times a week, and was in the club mixed doubles tournament with the club pro (combined age had to be over 100 B|).

It's what you keep doing. The people who decide that life is what it was, and not what it can be, are the ones who are most likely to be miserable as they get older.

Anyway, just a little rant. At 50, I can see it getting closer. But, ya know, it beats NOT getting older :)

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I guess that's what I'm shooting for.;)
Some of my co-workers that are my age and even younger are in horrible shape and I've seen 3 die under age 55 as soon as they retire. They stuff Hardees Sausage Biscuits and Krispy Kremes down their throats and then complain about having diabetes, being out of breath when they take 1-2 flights of stairs. Some will not walk the one flight from the breakroom, instead they will wait on the elevator. Their weekends consist of laying on the sofa watching TV with a bag of chips and beer/soda. And they say I'm crazy (psycho)?:D:D:D

I'm deathly afraid of heights. and bees. It's ironic though, because if I have a rig on, or I'm repelling, or ascending out of a cave, I have no problems, but put me on a ladder, and I can barely make it to the roof of a house.

There's certain stuff that give me the heebee geebees or makes me uncomfprtable, but I've got this wierd fear of dogs. Not all dogs, mainly the ones with dark fur around their mouths like Rotweillers (sp?) and any agressive ones. When I was about 4 years old I had a run-in with a great dane that just left this weird primal fear in me that I can't shake.[:/]
