My new parakeet...what should we name him??

Recommended Posts

Pics taken with a crappy cell phone camera, but he is mostly white, black spots on his wings, some black on his front, and deep blue onhis back and patches of blue on his chest here and there. He;s just a baby, and very sweet! :)
I have KIDS so no lewd names (well, on DZ.com it's ok, but we aren't gonna name him anything raunchy for reals...:P

And try to stay AWAY from blatant skydiving references. :S He is a family birdy, and I am the only one that skydives, so that's out. :P

I kinda liked 'Roger Ramjet', that way when I let him out to poke around, I can say "Roger, out."

Well?? Ideas?? :)

In case anyone was wondering, we've had birds before...I have owned 3 different parakeets, and 2 cockatiels. I had them all hand-trained, and let their wings grow out as soon as they would sit on my finger/shoulder. In the past, we've let our birdy come out and play once a day in the evenings to stretch the lil' wings and play with the family (they are quite social animals ;)).

This lil' guy will be no different, once he's trained and easier to catch the sucker after we let him out to play. :P

Parakeets are a great pet, but they tend to have a shorter lifespan. I have always kept all of the cage/toys/stuff from our previous animals for when we are ready for a new one. This guy needed to come home with us, and my autistic boys really like hearing his chirping and playing with his bells and toys.

I thought maybe it would seem too skydiver related. :$ He is a very pretty bird.

Naw, not too skydiver related. ;)

Well my daughter wanted to call him 'Cloudy' and I kinda liked the name 'Skye'...and so, he is now:

'Cloudy Skye'. B|

Hooray!! I'll let y'all know when I've got him talking. :)

Ahh his colors are awesome!!!!! I kinda like the name Cloud too "it fitting".
I had birds growing up (always parakeets). We just recently had a bird adopt us while at the Marathon Keys Boogie. I was snorkeling off Coconut Cay and Scotty was still on the beach. Scotty yelled "hey tami there is a love bird flying around me". I looked up and saw Scotty putting his arm out the the damn bird landed right on Scotty's arm. This pretty peach faced love bird wouldnt leave. So we put him and the van and drove right to the local pet store to see if someone reported a bird missing. Nope, no birds reported missing so we bought him a cage and named him BOOGIE BIRD. He is awesome ;). We did end up spending a small fortune on vet bills cause it turned out he was quite sick. But IV and lots of antibiotics and his quite a healthy bird. He loves being out of his cage and his favorite part of the day is taking a shower with me. He just carries on! Here is a picture of Boogie Bird and Herc!
Let us know what you name little Cloud ;)

We have two.
I got to name them, I went for unique names. THe white one is named Makani it means The Wind in Hawaiian and the colorful one is named Vito and is Latin for bright and vibrant.

Good luck finding names

Very pretty! I originally wanted to see about a love bird, but the pet shop quit selling them. They had said the ones they got in were terribly mean, and only took to 'one human', then would bite anyone else. :S Weird.

Plus I think love birds were quite a bit pricier, and I already had everything for a parakeet, we just needed the critter. ;)

He just started chirping this morning, when I was yelling for the boys to come down to breakfast. They noticed the noise, but couldn't figure it out. I brought little Cloudy down so they could see him in his cage, and they were actually disinterested in the bird, but VERY interested in hearing the sounds he made! Quite interesting to see what is important to a person with Autism...sometimes it is so very different from what is interesting to the rest of us. :)

Chicken fucker ;) At least the skydivers at the DZ can't teach a parakeet to say that

Last I checked (about 12 years ago) the guiness wolrd record for number of different words spoken by a bird was over 350...and the record holder was a parakeet! :o

Mine used to imitate the TV, the vacuum, and outside birds. :)

That sweet little guy needs a partner. That's all.
If you love to see him happy: Buy him a friend, another parakeet. That's what he needs to have a long, happy life :)

We probably will, but I want him to bond with us first, then he can show his buddy that we're ok. ;)
