loud boisterious morbid 1st timers...and other DZ irks

Recommended Posts

This guys gone through a lot of crap since he began. From his first couple of post, I thought man this guy is gonna get himself in trouble. We can sit here and bash on him all we want, but at some point we have to say forget it.
I know people will say, "but he can be dangerous to me in the sky with an attitude like that." To that I say his dropzone and instuctors have the responsabilty to ensure he's not dangerous and if he is than he shouldn't jump.
As a community mabey it's time to
A) Help Him through private e-mail. and then
b) If that doesn't work, ignore him

Superman, I sent you a pm, as I'm sure many others have and now I'm publically gonna say it and then be done with you, sit back, observe, shut-up for awhile, the skydiving community is an awsome community that is excepting of most everyone. If you have a dream of being a "real" skydiver, nothing will get you their faster than listening.

To the mods: If this is considered a personal attack I apologize and will take it off.

Steve

Exactly!!!!!

Let it go already. If he wants to listen, he will listen. If not, then just ignore him. All of the public bashing isn't doing a damn bit of good.

You gotta give the guy some credit, he did post an apology to everyone on dz.com for his recent threads. Cut him some slack.

I wasn't accusing you of anything, just simply pointing out what you said yourself.

Showing someone a 'good throw' is in essence, teaching them something.

Quote

i said for them to display a calm confident throw (their instructor will be the one to teach him/her how to throw), not to panic if they have a hard time finding the ripcord.

No, you said you show them a good throw.

no. perhaps you misunderstood.i said for them to show a good throw when it comes time to pull.

i just talk to them tell them to relax on the way down, enjoy the view, (if they're serious about pursuing AFF) i tell them to start good habits now and maintain good altitude awareness and show a good throw when they pull.

Why don't guys give the dude a break.....jeeez. I think he's been tormented enough over the last couple of days :S

He is a blasphemer and must suffer the wrath of the gods that be!

Personally, I think burning him at the stake would be more humane (and entertaining) but the rules here don't quite allow it. ;) So some will continue to peck at him till he dies or goes away. Pretty much the way all cultures do it, actually.

Seriously, I agree with you, people need to lighten up and find ways to improve their group status that do not involve picking on the unpopular. Cut the newbie some slack.

John

Please do not ever give any student, any advice on skydiving.

Not because you're wrong, because obviously you're not, but because you're not that students instructor.

Students don't need instruction coming from multiple people. It doesn't help, it just makes the instructors job harder.

On the other hand, the instructors have probably forgotten what it's like to be a student. That's something you can relate to, and communicate far better than the instructor. Relish it, before you forget it.

Tell them stories, tell them how skydiving has affected you, and and the things that make it special for you, but please leave the instruction to the instructors.

No kidding... let it die already! I've been reading this since it started and all I can see are egos bumping into each other. It goes from a good conversation to down right stupidity. If no one will reply to it anymore, then maybe this thread will die a nice little death. :S

Whenever my tandem students say "its a beautiful day to die" or something like that, I always reply:

"See that beautiful woman in the hangar packing her parachute? That's my wife. Trust me, today may be a beautiful day to die for you, but it's a better day to live for me!"

sometimes I adlib:

"That beauty over there in the hangar is my wife and she is cooking me dinner tonight, and I am NEVER late for dinner!"

I've got about 800 tandems now, and we are a very friendly DZ. Fun jumpers almost always talk to our students while waiting to jump, and hanging out waiting to board the plane, and I'll be honest, I can't think of one time a fun jumper said or did anything that really made a negative difference in my student's mental state. I think good intentioned pep talks from fun jumpers to my students are okay. I just hate that frigging "5th point of attachment" comment I hear from time to time.........>:(

If you were at my DZ I would tell you to please stay away from the students. No offense, but you don't have the experience to know what to say to the students/passengers. Some students respond better to calming statements, some react better to joking around to calm them down. The longer you have been around the easier it will be for you to tell how to handle the different students and how to read them.

It would be in your best interest at this point to stop trying to help and start learning. At 3 tandems you know almost nothing more than the 1st time jumper. Please stop trying to put yourself above them. I am not sure if you are trying to show off or you really think that you are helping but either way, you are not.

Maybe he should just shut his mouth and stop saying stupid shit! then people wouldn't get on him and give him a break!!
Sorry to criticize you 3 jump tandem master!
Some times you gain more when you just listen, stop acting like you have been in the sport for years!
Like someone told you earlier STOP AND THINK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH!

Listen to this guy.... [:/] lol.

Who are you?

Also, I really have a lot of fun when some burly biker type (you know, tank top and "do rag" clad) asks me if I'm gay as I trace his harness straps. I tend to prance about, and speak (try to) feminine.

It's all good man.

Worst thread I've seen in a while. You could have just chalked it up to "noob inexperience" and left it alone. It must feel good to point his complete ignorance in the meanest possible way.

Also - I don't agree with most of you (and thats ok - we're not always going to agree) but I see no fault in giving a 1st time tandem a "good luck" or "enjoy the view" or "be altitude aware" or even passing on some of the limited knowledge you gained on your jump. Is there an insturctor on this forum who will complain about someone telling their student to be altitude aware?

Its not like this guy is describing how to swoop... great overkill and overreaction on this one. The DZ will straighten him out if he is out of line....

Note - I only have 44 jumps - feel free to flame on me if you like.

This is getting way out of hand. It would be a great thing if a moderator would see fit to lock this thread. :S

Orrrr..... WE COULD JUST HIJACK IT!!!

I'm just saying, let's play to our strengths, people.

So, what's with the stuffed animals in the backseats of cars? Or the pillows and fake flowers? Or the spinning hubcaps? The neon? The enormous and loud tailpipes?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand these things?

:)

Boobies?

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

I really don't understand why people think it's necessary to put a MILLION stuffed animals in the back windshield. Are they all "special friends" or something?? :S :D I just have to shake my head when I get behind a carload full of stuffed animals!! :D:D:D

The spinning hubcaps are just silly. I mean, come on, silly. :D What the point? To distract other drivers while we stare into them and have some kind of hypnosis thing happen? :D

So many things in this world that I just don't understand. [:/]

:D:D:D:D

Boobies?? I don't see any boobies...

I saw a new VW bug the other day with piles of fake flowers on the dash. The only thing worse was that the owner (or someone how hates them very badly) took more of these flowers and outlined the front license frame.

I know! It's like it's a mobile 10-year-old girl's room - beanie babies EVERYWHERE!

The funniest thing is when the modifications cost more than the POS they're driving. I don't understand the rationale behind those spending decisions. :S

Oh, and boobies just because.
