Apparently the idea he had was to show how someone so innocent could be used to turn the fate of the entire universe around (since he started the vote). Guess he wanted the opposite effect of the ewoks as he is trying to balance off all the good in those movies with evil in these. So imagine the final battle in Ep 6 except with the bad guys winning this time.....that is the feel he wants for Ep 3.
