turtlespeed 219 #51 March 10, 2005 Well - then perhaps this is more correct to you . . .Reality is Perception Ponder this . . . People (A)'s perception of an individual(B) or Group (C) is (A)'s reality and allows assumptions as to who the group(C) or individuals(B) really are, be it, only in their (A)mind. So perhaps I should have said it a bit differently.OR - Whatever someone THINKS they know about you is only because that is what they percieve about you. It is their perception that is, in their mind, your reality. You are as real as you are to them because they are not you. Your reality, and theirs, although similar in alot of ways - is not the same. Reality is perception, perception is also reality.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Reality is perception, perception is also reality. "where's my wallet. I left it right here." Perception was that he left his wallet on the downstairs table. Reality is that it's actually on the upstairs dresser. Perception absolutely has an effect on reality though... because otherwise he woulda looked upstairs an hour earlier and not been reprimanded for being late to work that day. When you start saying things like "they perceived him to be X." Then it gets hard to discuss just 'cause of language. He is what he is. It is a reality that they perceived him as X. That perception effected how he was treated. But the two are different things. Related. But different. Or it may be that I've just mispercieved...btw... are you implying nobody likes me?“There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies.”
PLFXpert 0 #54 March 11, 2005 I love questions like this and discussions. I minored in Sociology so we had a lot of similiar debates. Actually, I was only 1 course away from that being a double-major. To answer your question---I would have to have more time to think about it all, but I don't believe, by definition, we do. I always do what I want, but there are always circumstances that affect why I choose to do the things I do. I argued once that all of our actions are selfish---meaning you do them to gain something for yourself. For example, volunteering/giving to charity, both of which I do, but I do them b/c it makes me feel good that I am helping. If it didn't 'make me feel good, would I do it? One women argued, "well, what about changing my kid's diaper?" Aren't you changing it allows you to maintain the knowledge you are a good mother, plus you don't particularly want to hear her cry or smell the stank, to be bold? It's definitely not a stupid question, Sarah, just one that can't really be proved either way b/c it is a matter of the mind, and we, as a people, have not come even close to fully understanding it. The military spends millions of dollars a year studying teleportation (moving yourself or object with your mind) thinking if we could do this, it would be a leg up in war times. The mind is a very powerful thing. I believe whole-heartedly in it's potential abilities and "mind over matter". It really works!Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. However, this is my belief, and I have to say it is a little annoying when people make "I'm right, everything else is wrong" statements like these. This is supposed to be a discussion!
